• Calling 024 7697 5200 where a member of the Adult Education Service will enrol you onto a class. Payment can be
made by debit or credit card only.

READING, WRITING, SPEAKING AND LISTENING
If you speak English but need help improving your reading and writing, these courses are for you. They will help you
improve your skills and gain a nationally recognised qualification. Classes run in centres across the city, daytime and
evening. In some venues childcare is available, please ask.
FUNCTIONAL SKILLS ENGLISH CLASSES: These classes focus on the English that adults need in their everyday lives: .
in the workplace, in your community, in your home. There are 5 different levels, the highest of which is equivalent to a
grade C/4 GCSE.

working in schools as teaching assistants, Dining Room Assistants (DRA’s), Site Services Officers and administration roles.

Are you looking for an ESOL class?
We have classes at all levels from Beginner/Pre-Entry level to Advanced/Level 1 or 2. Classes are in the morning at .
9.15-11.45am, afternoon at 12.30-3pm or evening at 6-8.30pm or 6.30-9pm and many of our daytime classes have creche
for your young children. We have classes in 20 venues across the city so there should be a class near you.
What will you learn in your ESOL class?
You will practise speaking and listening, reading and writing at your level. You can learn about things which help you
with everyday life such as finding a job, speaking at work, your home and community, health, travel, and living in Britain.
You will work towards a City & Guilds or Ascentis qualification at Entry Level or at Level 1 or 2.
Can you study other subjects for ESOL learners?

This 16 week course is aimed at learners who want to gain a maths GCSE before September and
who are able to demonstrate existing maths skills and understanding by passing a GCSE assessment paper.
Exams will be taken May/June 2020.

*MATHS
Our courses help you improve your maths and enable you to gain
nationally recognised qualifications. The classes are for people
who feel they want to start from the basics right up to those studying
for Maths GCSE. We run both daytime and evening classes at venues
throughout the city.
* FUNCTIONAL SKILLS MATHS CLASSES: these classes will improve your maths
skills and increase your confidence to use these skills in everyday situations, including:
at work, helping your children/grandchildren with their maths, gaining entry to further/higher
education and coping in a modern world where maths skills are essential.
Functional skills maths qualifications are at 5 different levels of qualification and you can work towards the most appropriate
level, depending on your ability in maths when you start. Level 2 (L2) is the highest and is equivalent to a grade C/4 GCSE. The
functional skills maths classes are labelled either L2 only or up to L1, this will help your decision when enrolling and the advice
and guidance you will receive will support you making the right decision in line will your initial assessment.
The classes focus on the kind of maths adults need in their everyday lives and includes: solving calculations, problem solving,
using fractions, decimals and percentages, understanding the metric system and interpreting graphs and charts.

New learners enrolling must attend an assessment and enrolment session and must bring proof of identity,
National Insurance Number and certificates showing existing maths qualifications (if appropriate).
The next available session is Thursday 9th January 1.00-7.00pm at Harp Place, CV1 4DX and learners can just turn up for
this session.

The GCSE maths course covers the curriculum for the Date Time Venue
