Deforestation and other negative environmental impacts are impacting locals by giving

them more health problems. With the absence of trees people breathe in polluted air and drink

polluted water. Trees are very important because they filter out that pollution in the air by taking

in the pollution and turning it into oxegen. It stated from top 22 benefits of trees “Trees absorb

odors and pollutant gases (nitrogen oxides, ammonia, sulfur dioxide and ozone) and filter

particulates out of the air by trapping them on their leaves and bark”(top 22 benefits of trees).

Trees also filter out pollutants in waterways and in the soil to keep our waterways clean. When

there are no trees, pollution like sewage and oil can go into waterways and causes us to drink

unsafe water. Another reason when there are no trees, wildfires and floods have a higher chance

of occuring. Floods happen when there is too much water in the soil causing the water after that

to run off and create a flood. Trees soak up the water in the soil keeping the saturation point low

so there is no flood. With the absence of trees a flood does occur. The flood creates a huge mess

of debris and pollution and then the water is polluted. On the other hand, wildfires can occur

more often when there are no trees. Trees prevent wildfires from occurring by shading leaves and

keeping the dead debris on the forest floor that is highly flammable wet. This keeps a fire from

starting and creating pollution in the air. Locals need forests to keep their health levels good.

On the other hand the economic, social and environmental productivity of locals can

decrease when there are no trees or nature. The locals will have no jobs when there are no trees.

Trees give locals jobs such as picking fruit, making timer/wood and creating entertainment like

ziplining from trees. For example some local lives in a poor country with no trees present. One

day someone planted apple trees. The locals can now pick the apples, get a profit and live a

better life. Trees can prevent dangerous weather form occurring. Trees combat climate change

when we cut down trees the climate gets hotter. This causes more dangerous weather like a

bigger hurricane. Since the world is hotter the ocean is hotter too creating a feeding frenzy for a

hurricane to get HUGE. It says from top 22 benefits of trees “Excess carbon dioxide (CO2) is

building up in our atmosphere, contributing to climate change. Trees absorb CO2, removing and

storing the carbon while releasing oxygen back into the air. In one year, an acre of mature trees

absorbs the same amount of CO2 produced when you drive your car 26,000 miles” (Top 22

Benifits Of Trees). This is an example of how trees can help locals in a huge way.

What people are doing now are helping reverse deforestation and other negative

environmental things. Organizations that help improve the world get funding from the public that

can help improve the environment like planting trees. They are also selling products to help bring

money in to help out. What students have done is donate to those organizations, help recycle

plastic and other products and not cutting down trees.

Two organizations that have been helping the world are the World Wildlife Fund and

Tentree. WWF helps bring back endangered species from the brink of extinction. They do this by

using their money to hire park rangers to stop poaching, buying land to create habitat for the

animals and so much more. Tentree is also helping out too. They plant trees for every product

you buy from them. Their products are made out of no wood and they help locals in a good way

too when they plant those trees. It says on their website “In Canada, we plant Red Pine, and

Poplars. Both of which aid in carbon sequestration and soil restoration while also providing

timber resources to help the national economy. Pines and poplars are also a huge factor in animal

habitat, contributing a large component to the stability of ecosystems(customer trees). This

shows one of their success stories. Another example in Madagascar in which they plant the most

trees, the trees provide jobs and food for them. Also they provide timer and air filtration for the

locals. This shows what we are doing to achieve this goal.

We still need to do more things, big and small to achieve this goal. There is a list of big

things we can do. We could go out and help plant trees and clean up the planet. Also there are

organizations that need help doing a project like planting trees and if you go help you could help

ecosystems and the climate. You could go on a hike and pick up trash you see to help out the

ecosystem. On the other hand you could be a leader for the environment. You could start a

campaign to help out the environment and ecosystems or a service project like planting trees at a

state park to help out the animals and the environment.

There are some small things you can do today to help save the planet. Planting a tree in

your backyard is a great idea because you could help combat climate change. What people have

done is donate some money to organizations that are saving the planet like the WWF. A simple

thing that you could do is print less so you keep the demand down for paper made from trees.

Recycling is also a good way so you can help keep pollution down on our world. In the end what

you do today for our planet will dramatically help it tomorrow.
