PROJECT PLAN

INQUIRY MODULE
THA IANG SEPTEMBER 24, 2019

DESCRIPTION
My subject area of interest is tutoring children in math. The
technologies I want to explore in are electronic nose, virtual
reality, and robotics. They are not related to math or
education in general, but I have been interested in these Commented [k1]: I wonder if maybe you should have
tried to connect it to education…because there are
three technologies. always questions that ask how a technology can help
people learn in your subject
Commented [k2R1]:
SUBJECT AREA OF INTEREST

I chose my subject area of interest as tutoring in math

because I want to improve my method of tutoring students
with math. In wanting to become a math teacher in the
future, I want to gain lots of experiences and meeting
different types of people and how I could use different
method when helping the kids.

IGNITED LABS TECHNOLOGY AREA (AI)

THE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) APPLICATION I PLAN TO
EXPLORE IS 3D PRINTING. I EXPLORE 3D PRINTING BECAUSE I WANT
TO KNOW HOW IT LOOK AND HOW IT WORKS.
1. How do you think this technology will (or will not) change the
way people learn within your subject area?

The 3D Printing could be useful when a student starts their

first learning in numbers. I remember when I first learning
numbers in school, we watched and listen to a number song
and see the number in the video. In the future, I want to
print out numbers from the 3D printer and teach the
students in the effective way.

2. What are some of the shortfalls of this technology currently?

What advancements (technologic or otherwise) are needed for
this technology to reach its potential to transform the way we
learn?

Some of the shortfalls of 3D printing was that it may take

long to print plenty of numbers for every student, the costs
are expensive, and materials are limited. Commented [k3]: Discuss these ideas a bit further. It
is alright to say “this technology will not be helpful in
class” as long as you explain why

3. Describe how this technology might be utilized (for good or

bad) outside of its original intended purpose? Do you foresee
anything we should be wary of?

3D Printing might be utilized for art. Many people enjoy art

so making art through 3D printing and showing people could
surprised and bring happiness. Commented [k4]: I think you may need to write a bit
more, explain yourself more, because I think we need
a paragraph for each response

IGNITED LABS TECHNOLOGY AREA (XR)
VR IS THE EXTENDED REALITY (XR) APPLICATION I EXPLORE. IT WAS
A VERY GOOD EXPERIENCE BECAUSE IT WAS THE VERY FIRST TIME I
TRIED VR.

1. How do you think this technology will (or will not) change the
way people learn within your subject area?

VR will not change the way people learn in math class. Commented [k5]: Why? Maybe talk about what they
could change so it could be helpful in math
Commented [k6R5]:
2. What are some of the shortfalls of this technology currently?
What advancements (technologic or otherwise) are needed for
this technology to reach its potential to transform the way we
learn?

Some of the shortfalls of VR currently are that it

deteriorates human connections, lack of flexibility,
addiction to the virtual world, expensive, and
functionality issues.

3. Describe how this technology might be utilized (for good or

bad) outside of its original intended purpose? Do you foresee
anything we should be wary of?

VR is a good technology to use for a person that have interested in

traveling around the world. I tried on the VR in which I could see
other places and learn about the places and it was like I was
travelling there. It could be a beginning part and get a glimpse of
the place before going to the place. It would be useful and that a
person could get familiar with the place.

3
IGNITED LABS TECHNOLOGY AREA (IOT)
The application for Internet of Things I wants to explore is called
Sphero SPRK+.

1. How do you think this technology will (or will not) change the
way people learn within your subject area?

Sphero SPRK+ could be very useful in a math class because the students
could see and understand how a shape work by looking at the ball move.
After learning how to use the technology, everyone can spend their time
analyzing and understanding how shapes or other math related work. Not
only do they learn, they will also have fun playing with the ball. Commented [k7]: I really like this idea! And you
explained it very well

2. What are some of the shortfalls of this technology currently?

What advancements (technologic or otherwise) are needed for
this technology to reach its potential to transform the way we
learn?

The downside of this are that there need to be enough space

for the SPRK+ to run and battery need to be charge daily.
However, the advancements needed for this technology to
reach its potential to transform the way we learn are that it
should be able to create color in the area that’s being
placed.

3. Describe how this technology might be utilized (for good or

bad) outside of its original intended purpose? Do you foresee
anything we should be wary of?

Sometime the ball does not work like how we want it so we should
understand that it is not perfect. People who are interested in
coding should use this and have fun with it.

RESEARCH CONCLUSIONS
For an elementary class, I think that having lot of
technologies in the school is unnecessary. I think that the
3D printing will be useful for a teacher that want to teach
his or her students with a hand-on activity. It could make
students in the classroom to have more fun. I hear that
many people hated math and that we don’t need to learn in
school. However, I want to show my students that learning
math is fun and that it is exciting to learn how math work. Commented [k8]: It would have been nice if you tried
to explore technologies that can be used in an
elementary classroom, so that you can a least imagine
hoe they could help for learning
PERSONAL LEARNING EXPERIENCE
I personally love the VR technology. I have a fear of Commented [k9]: In general I think you could have
talked more about each question and tried to connect
going and looking at deep water so I believe that after going them to math in an elementary level.

through the VR, I might be able to overcome my fear. When

I tried the VR, I look at places and learn about them. I
believe that I learn better because I could see how the
places are and it was like I was in the area at that moment.
