A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 4

I. Objective
At the end of the lesson , the student should be able to;
 Visualize the concept of the area
 Find the area of two dimensional figures
 Solve word problems involving area.

KBI: Participate and cooperate

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: AREA
B. References:
C. Materials:
 Rubics cube
 Flash cards
III. Procedure

A. Preparatory Activities

1. Prayer

Everybody stand up. John please lead the

prayer.
Our Father who art in heaven……

Good Morning Class!

Good Morning Ma’am!

How are you today?

We are fine ma’am!
That’s good to hear. Now , let me check
your attendance.
( All are present)
Very Good, no one is absent today. Give
yourself five claps class!
*Clap*Clap*Clap*Clap*Clap*

2. Drill

Now, I have here flash cards. Once I flash, you will

read what is written. Do you understand?
Yes Ma’am.
Table Door Window

Paper Blackboard Desk

3. Review
Class who can recall our topic yesterday.
Yes Jean?
Our topic yesterday is about perimeter.
Very Good! What is perimeter again? Yes
Caren?
Perimeter is the length of the outline of a shape.

Very Good! Now, is there any question

about our topic yesterday? No Ma’am.

4. Motivation

Now class, I have here an object. What is this? Yes

Lanie?
Rubics Cube
Very Good. This is a rubics cube. Did you know
how to use this?
No Ma’am.
Have you watch someone or watch a video playing
this one? Yes Ma’am.

That’s good. Now what shapes do you see?

Square
Right! There’s a lot of squares. How many sides
does rubics cube have? Yes Dani?
Four sides ma’am.
Very Good! It has four sides. In each sides how
many squares does it have? Yes Lin?
Five sides.
That’s right! I t has five squares in each sides. Is it
equal?
Yes ma’am.
So this object shows that area is the number of
square units in a figure can contain.

B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
So, our topic this morning is all about AREA.

2. Discussion
AREA
- Is the number of square units contained in
a figure.
Who can read? Yes Jani?
AREA
- Is the number of square units contained in
Thank you! a figure.

I have here 2 squares, the small black square and

the big white one. The black square has a side of
1unit so its area is 1 square unit. The number of
black squares that can fit inside the white square.
This shows that area is the number square units
that a figure can contain.
To find the area of a suare, we will solve it by
multiplying the side itself or side times side.

Using its formula:

Area of a square = side × side

Do you understand class?

Yes Ma’am.

Then to find the area of a rectangle is just an

extension of the square. Therefore, we use this
formula :

Area of a rectangle = length × width

Is there any question?

No Ma’am.

2.Teaching Modelling

Class, kindly observe this rubics cube that I have.

If you noticed every side of it has the same size.
So, to get the area of this square, we will use
formula of square which is :

A = side × side

For us to get its area. Is it clear class?

Yes Ma’am.
3. Guided Practice
Okay class since we are already done discussing
the concept of the area , I will now group you into
2.
Group 1
Your task is to solve the word problem to get the
area.
1. The perimeter of a square town is 36 m.
What is its area?
Is it clear Group 1?
Yes Ma’am.
Group 2
Your task is to find the area of a square.

S =8cm

Is it clear Group 2?
Yes Ma’am.
But first, did you still remember our standard in
groupings? Yes ma’am.

What are those again?

 Work harmoniously
 Stay in your group
 Cooperate
 Listen attentively
 Accept the ideas of others
 Perform well
That’s right!
Okay class, you can start now.You only have 3
minutes to perform the task in each group.
Do you understand class? Yes ma’am.

C. Concluding Activities
1. Generalization
Again class, area is the number of square units
contained in a figure. If we want to find the area of
a square , we need to use its formula :

A = S × S or multiplying by itself.

Is it clear? Yes Ma’am.

What about when we want to measure the figure

of a rectangle? What formula do we need to used?
Yes Kim? We should use
Area of a rectangle = length × width

Very Good. Is there any question class?

No Ma’am.

2. Application
Now class, I have things with me and with
allocated measurements. Kindly answer it.

1. 5 cm

6 cm

2. 9 cm

8 cm

3.
12 cm

16

IV. Evaluation
Kindly get ½ sheet of paper and answer this one.

Direction :
Get the total measurements using the formula of
the rectangle and the square.

1. 11m

15 m

2. 8m

6m
3. 16m

20m
4. 6m

10m

5. 20cm

V. Assignment
Class, get your assignment notebook and copy this
one.
Answer the following :
