commentary upon the subjects published as a Service
Bulletin, ASB Printed Mattar No. 2081 0577 00 (280577),
‘enclosed with the technical iterature delivered with each
machine. If your copy should be missing, do not hesitato to
claim one from your Atlas Copco agency. Paople responsible
for working with or on Atlas Copco equipment shall read the

In adaition to normal safoty rules which should be observed
with portable air comprossors, the following safety directions
‘and precautons are of special importance.
\When operating this compressor unit, the operators expocted
to employ safe working practices and to observe al related
local work satay requirements,
‘The owners responsible for maintaining tho comprossorin a
safe operating condition. Compressor parts and accessorios
shall be replacedif unsuitable for safe operation.
Handling. operation, maintenance and repair shallonly be
performedby authorized, trained, competent personnel
Normal ratings (pressures, temperatures, speeds, etc) shall
be durably marked.
{any statementin this book, especially with regard to
‘safety, does not comply with local legislation, the stricter
‘of the two shall apply.
‘These precautions are general and cover several machine
types and equipment, hence some statements may not
apply to the unit described in this book.
Handling andoperation
To lit aunt all loose or pivoting pars, e.g. doors and.
drawbar, shall first be securely fastened. Do not attach
cables, chains or ropes direct tothe ifn eye; apply a crane
hook orig shackle meeting local safoty ues.

limits.
1. Before towing the compressor:
1. Ascertan that the pressure vessol(s) are depressurized
. Check the drawbar, the coupling ofthe towing vehicle,
the brake system and the towing eye,
«©. Check thatthe pivot wheel or stand logis safely locked
inthe raised positon.
. Check that the wheels are socure and thatthe tres are
ingood condition and inflated correctly.
‘2. Connect the signalizaton cabla, check alllights and
‘connect the pneumatic brake couplers.
{. Attach the safaty break-away cable tothe towing vehicle,
49. Disengage the parkingbrake.
2. the unitis to be backed up by the towing vehicte,
‘disengage the overtun brake mechanism.
3, Never exceed the maximum towing speed ofthe unit.
4, Place the unit on level ground and apply the parking brake
before disconnecting the unit from the towing vehicle. Unclip
the safety broakaway cable,
'5, When the unit has to operate ina fire-hazardous enwiron-
‘ment, each engine exhaust has tobe provided with a spark
arrestor to trap incendiary sparks.
6. When the units used ina confined space, conduct the
engine exhaust the outside atmosphere by a suitable pipe
erhose of not less than 100mm (4in.) diameter. The exhaust
‘contains carbon monoxide which is alethal gas,
7. Noextemal force may be exerted onthe air outlet valves
(6.9, by puling on hoses) or by installing auxiliary equipment
rectly toa valve (0.9. a water separator, alibricator etc)
8, Distribution pipework and airhoses must be of correct siza
‘and suitable for the working pressure. Never use frayed,
‘damaged or deteriorated hoses. Use only the correct ype
‘and size ofhose end ftings and connections,
‘Ahose connected to a2 in, (50mm) valve must be provided
vith a safety wire fixed to the hose for effective pressures as
from 10 bar (145 psi) up, although itis recommended to apply
‘such safeguard already from 4 bar (60 ps) up. The safety
wire ends have to be attached, one tothe eye provided nextto
the compressor airoutlat valve, the other one to a point near
to theairinlotof the applied equipment.
Close the comprassor air outet valve before connecting or
disconnecting a hose. Ascartain that ahosa is fully depros-
sunizedbotore disconnectingit
When blowing through a hose or airline, ensure that the open
end sheld securely. A free end will whip andmay cause
injury.
Never play with compressed air. Never apply ito your skin or
direct an airstroam at people. Never us ito cloan dirt from
‘your clothes. When using to clean down equipment, do so
with extreme caution and use eye protection
Never use other than ores air compressors for supplying
breathing air, unlossitis known tobe propery purified for
such use. Breathing ar must always be supplied at stablo,
suitable pressure.
9. Never rofl fuel while the compressors running. Koop fuel
away from hot pipes. Do not smoke when fueling. When
fuoling from an automatic pump, a ground cable should be
connected tothe unit to discharge static electricity.
10, Never operate the unitin surroundings where there isa
possibilty of taking in flammable or toxic fumes.

When more than one compressors connected to @ common
header, bo sure each comprossor has a non-retum valve.

Maintenance
Maintenance and repair work shall only be carried out by
‘adequately trained personnel;f requited, under supervision of
‘someone quaifad forthe job.
1. Use only the corect tools for maintenance and repair work

3, Allmaintonanca work, other than routine attention, shall
‘only be undertaken when the compressoris stopped. Ensure
thatthe unitcannotbe started inadvertantly
4, Bofors removing any pressurized component, efactvely
isolate the unit from all sources of pressure andrelieve the
enti systom of pressure, Do not rely on non-retum valves
(chack valves) to isolate prassure systame,
5, Never use flammable solvents or carbon tetrachoride for
Cleaning parts. Take safety precautions against toxic vapors,
ofcleaning liquids.
6, Scrupulcusly observe cleanliness during maintenance and
when performing repairs. Keep dirt away by covering the
parts and expased openings wit a clean cloth, paper or tape,
7. Never weld on or perform any operation involving heat near
the fuel oral systems. Fuel and ol tanks must be completaly
purged (e.g. by steam-cleaning) before carrying out such
‘operations.

bums ifitcontacts your skin. Therefore, be careful
\whon handling batteries. e.g. when chocking the charge
condition,
b. When batteries are being charged, an explosive gas

ventholosin the plugs. Thus an explosive atmosphere
‘may form around the battery i vention is poor, and
‘can romain in and around the battery for several hours
after ithas boon charged,

Never smoke near batteries being, orhaving recently
