Conclusions
t is possible to take advantage of the growth of the life of the fungus P. ostreatus, which
has the capacity to agglomerate the sugarcane bagasse fibers, and by applying
engineering a wood biocomposite material with better mechanical properties at tension
and flexion can be produced, than those reported for agglomerated panels with
thermoset synthetic resins.
Sugarcane bagasse fibers are a suitable substrate to obtain a biocomposite material, the
fungus P. ostreatus presented a broad mycelial expansion on this by-product of great
abundance in the agroindustrial sector. With this process you can increase the value of
these fibers, by incorporating it into a new production process.
There are many characteristics that can be further investigated in this material, such
as thermal, electrical properties, other mechanical properties, processing techniques,
etc. It is necessary to continue this characterization because this material represents an
alternative with very interesting environmental advantages, the use of thermostable
synthetic resins can be eliminated or considerably reduced.
