HISTORIA DEL PAPEL

Es poca la gente que comprende el proceso por el cual el papel llega a sus manos. Muchos saben
que los árboles tienen que ver en este proceso pero no cómo se realiza y qué técnicas y materiales
implica.

De todos los materiales que la gente ha utilizado para la escritura, el papel es el más difundido a
través del mundo. Su nombre deriva del papyrus, que era el material que usaban los antiguos
egipcios, griegos y romanos. El papiro es sin embargo, sólo uno de los prdecesores del papel.

Ts`ai Lun inventó el papel en el año 105 DC, en China, a partir de desperdicios de tela. En esa época
era el jefe de los eunucos del Emperador, y estaba al frente de los suministros de la Casa Real.

Asi, los chinos desarrollaron un buen número de especialidades de papel, ya sea de diferentes
tamaños, con protección contra insectos, etc. Sin embargo, tuvieron problemas para satisfacer la
gran demanda que había para administración del gobierno. Entonces usaron fibra de bamboo para
su fabricación.

Durante 500 años, la fabricación del papel fue exclusiva de los chinos, y es hasta el año 610 cuando
la técnica de fabricación llega a Japon y Corea.

El primer libro de la historia, se imprimió en China en el año 868. Se trata de "El Sutra del Diamante",

HISTORY OF PAPER

There are few people who understand the process by which the paper reaches their hands. Many
know that trees have to do with this process but not how it is done and what techniques and
materials it involves.

Of all the materials that people have used for writing, paper is the most widespread throughout the
world. Its name derives from the papyrus, which was the material used by the ancient Egyptians,
Greeks and Romans. The papyrus is, however, only one of the paper's predecessors.

Ts`ai Lun invented the paper in AD 105, in China, from cloth scraps. At that time he was the
Emperor's eunuchs chief, and he was in charge of the supplies of the Royal House.

Thus, the Chinese developed a good number of paper specialties, whether of different sizes, with
protection against insects, etc. However, they struggled to meet the high demand for government
administration. Then they used bamboo fiber for their manufacture.
