IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing or presenting ACTIVITY: Review
the new lesson
Group Activity(Carousel Brainstorming)
Note to the Teacher: Group the students in 10 groups

Mechanics:

1. Each group shall form a circle.

2. There are 10 problems for this activity where
they have to simplify the following given into
single fractions. Each problem is to be answered
in 2 minutes.
3. After the time allotment, the participants shall
pass the questionnaire to their right and so on
until they answer the 10th question.
4. Exchange papers for checking.
Add the following fractions
𝟐 𝟏
1. + 6. 2/5 +1/3
𝟑 𝟑
𝟏 𝟑
2. 𝟒 + 𝟒 7. 4/5 + 1/4
𝟏 𝟏
3. 𝟑 + 𝟐 8. 7/3 + 3/4
−𝟕 𝟏
4. 𝟐 + 𝟑 9. 4/5 + 2/3
𝟑 𝟏
5. + 10. 3/2 + 1/4
𝟒 𝟖
B. Establishing a purpose Motive Questions:
for the lesson 1. How did you solve the activity? (expected answer:
by applying the rule in addition of fraction with the
same denominator and with different denominator)
2. How to add fractions with the same denominator?
(expected answer: Copy the common denomenator and
add the numerator)
3. How about if the denominator is different?(expected
answer: finding its LCD.To find the LCD of rational
algebraic expressions, follow these steps:
a. Factor each denominator. Express as powers any
factor that occurs more than once.
b. List all distinct factors that appear in any of the
denominators. When the same factor appears in more
than one denominator, get only the factor with the
highest power.
C. Find the product of these factors. This is the LCD.
Note: Lead the students to the concept of “adding
rational algebraic expression”

The rule in adding rational algebraic expressions is the

same as in adding fraction.
C. Presenting examples of Add the following rational algebraic expressions(Note: At
the new lesson the right side are the expected answer)
1 3 1
1. 2𝑦 + 2𝑦
𝑦
4𝑥 𝑦 4x+y
2. 𝑥−1 + 𝑥−1
𝑥−1
28y+9𝑥 2

6𝑥 3 +𝑥 2 −𝑥−1
5𝑥 𝑥+1
4. 𝑥 2 −1 + 𝑥 2
𝑥 2 (𝑥−1)
3 2 5 3𝑎𝑏2 +2+5𝑎𝑏
5. 𝑎 + 𝑎2 𝑏2 + 𝑎𝑏
𝑎2 𝑏2
 How did you add the item 1 & 2? (expected answer:
Copy the common denominator and add the
numerator)
 How about item 3 – 5?(expected answer; by
obtaining each LCD)
 How did you obtain its LCD? (by using the rule in
finding LCD)
D. Discussing new To add rational algebraic expressions follow the rule in adding
concepts and practicing fraction. That is;
new skills #1  To add/subtract with the same denominator, direct
add the new numerator and copy the denominator.

 Simplify the result.

Example:

1. =
4𝑥 𝑦
2. 𝑥−1 + 𝑥−1
Solution:
4𝑥 𝑦 𝟒𝒙+𝒚
𝑥−1
+ 𝑥−1 = 𝒙−𝟏
(Note: for additional examples please refer to the attachment)
E. Discussing new  To add with different denominator, find the LCD
concepts and practicing and simplify the result.
new skills #2 Example:

I. Find the LCD

F. Developing Mastery ACTIVITY: Group Activity
 Divide the class into groups of 5 members each.
 Let the group answer and brainstorm the activity
below in 3 minutes.
 After 3 minutes, let the reporter presents their
outputs.
Add the following rational algebraic expressions.
(Note: At the right side are the expected answers)

3. 𝑥 2 −1+4𝑥−12
4𝑥 3 −12𝑥 2 −4𝑥+12

G. Finding practical  Rational algebraic expressions has many application

applications of concepts in our daily living. Consider the problems below:
and skills in daily living Jose estimates that he can a job in 12 hours while
his brother Joel estimates that he can do the same
job in 15 hours. How long would it take them to
finish the job if they work together? (answer:
6.67hrs)
 How did you obtain the answer?
