Thinking Type: Grinder (or detailer)

Grinders get the work done. They are concrete thinkers and detail-oriented doers.
Grinders like few variables, avoid risks when possible, and have a low tolerance for
ambiguity. They are often administrators that understand the need to solve problems and
understand specified tasks.

Grinders are all about operations. They do the same tasks over and over again, year after
year - and they love it. These are your corporate meeting planners, mechanics,
administrative assistants, software programmers, bookkeepers, and line factory workers.

The world cannot operate without grinders. They proudly plow through their work and get
the job done, one step at a time.

Challenges: Grinders often struggle when they have been given a role where strategy
development is essential. Concrete thinkers are not able to engage in abstract thinking and
will be overwhelmed if asked to do so.
--------------------------

So, what did you find? Are you a concrete or abstract thinker? Are you a visionary or do
you enjoy planning out every detail? What’s your tolerance for risk? Are you the type of
person who thrives in change or resists it?

Encourage yourself to sit with your results for the next week and challenge yourself with
what you’ve found. Pay special attention to the areas where you feel stressed or
overwhelmed. You may be moving or functioning outside of your Thinking Wavelength.
You will find greater satisfaction when you being to make adjustments that allow you work
from the place of your personality and gifting.

I hope this quiz helped to shed some light on where you fall on the Thinking Wavelength
and how it relates to your fit in the world.

Thinking Type: Minder

Minders know how to skillfully “mind the store” by solving problems and leading
a small group to focus on a specific task. They function best as frontline
supervisors. They diagnose problems and put out “brush fires.”

Minders can also manage a unit team or department well, with both the people
skills and organizational abilities to do so. They are most often your supervisors,
teachers, chief engineers, section leaders, and foremen.

Minders are not usually innovative, but they also see no reason to be. You can
count on a Minder to keep the processes and teams functioning and running like
a well-oiled machine.

Challenges: Minders for all the good they do in stores and departments have
limitations. These often pop up when thinking about growing beyond the
capacity of a single store, as they too lack some of the "entrepreneurial" habits
of a finder.

Thinking Type: Keeper

Keepers are a blend of strategic and operational, making them capable managers.

They possess an appreciation for the both strategic and the administrative.

Keepers may have both concrete and abstract thinking skills but will be biased to

administrative/operational work. They work well with people and make great

mediators in conflicts because they can relate to both ends of the thinking

wavelength spectrum.

Keepers make good personnel managers, directors of departments, plant

managers, and executive assistants. They are those who handle the details, yet

always keep the broader vision in sight. They are organized and can deal well

with variables and change.

Challenges: The keeper may struggle with too much detail. They simply don't

have the head for continually pounding out the details. The keeper is the bridge

to keep the administrative/operations talking with the strategic/developmental.

Thinking Type: Finder

Finders are your classic entrepreneurs. They are abstract thinkers, so they often

don’t complete the paperwork that most concrete thinkers require. They are

innovators and creators, but follow-through is not their greatest strength. In

group structures, they may appear as loose cannons. Finders often need

grinders, minders, and keepers to follow in the wake of their creativity.

Finders sense and seize opportunities, spot voids, and fill them. They are bored

by a steady state, love a new challenge, and must be thrown “raw meat” regularly.

Finders often make great chief executive officers, chief visionaries, product or

market managers, joint venture leaders, founding pastors, advanced development

engineers, and entrepreneurs.

Finders want to ensure that their ideas work in the first-generation prototype. But

once they are assured that it does, they must hand it off to a keeper to build upon

as they move onto their next interest.

Challenges: Finders sometimes struggle to do the work of Grinders and Minders.

They would rather avoid the details. Abstract thinkers such as finders may be

able to do a concrete thinking job for a brief time, but they quickly will become

bored with such a position and become very frustrated with the details. Finders

often need grinders, minders, and keepers to follow in the wake of their creativity.

Thinking Type: Conceiver

Conceivers are theorists who love the big picture and ideas. They are bright,

articulate, and persuasive, but don’t expect things to come to closure.

Conceivers have a role best suited for universities, seminaries, and pure research

laboratories. Unfortunately, they do not belong in business. They cannot manage

others well, and their ideas rarely become commercialized or brought to the

masses. They are often criticized for being”all talk and no follow-through”.

Conceivers, however, embrace risk and often make quantum leaps. They are

strategic, opportunity-oriented, and welcome change and ambiguity. They

postulate the new and love the forty-thousand-foot macro-view, but don’t execute.

Conceivers are typically employed as, researchers, and philosophy professors,

theologians, and innovators.

Conceivers are incredibly valuable. because they are on the edge of new ideas.

Because of this, they can grab attention for performance and inspirational ideas.

Challenges: Conceivers are bright and articulate, but often struggle with

execution.
