Sebastián Blanco looks
back on the most important
goal of his career and
explains his sense of fashion.
Sebasti‡nBlanco

You played in the home opener against Los Angeles FC on

June 1 and earned an assist in a 1-0 win over FC Dallas at
Providence Park on June 30. In those two matches, how
has the atmosphere been at Providence Park?
“It’s always great to play at home. The atmosphere is
always important for us, especially now that we have a
bigger and better stadium. I will now have to play a lot of
home games and we sure hope we can get all the points
we need to make it to the playoffs.”
Last season in the Western Conference Championship,
you scored an incredible goal that tied the match at
Sporting Kansas City. Where does that goal rank in your
career, and what were your feelings after the match?
“The goal I scored against Sporting Kansas City last year was
definitely the most important goal of my career. I am a player
that doesn’t score a lot of goals, 50 in total perhaps. I think
it was the most important of my career because of what it
meant, because it was a conference final, because of its beauty,
because of what it represented to our fans, because it was a
complicated moment in the match and because it helped us get
a trophy. I would say is ranked number one in my list. I think,
thank God, I have scored the most beautiful goals of my career
with Portland, but this one is definitely on top of the podium.”
You’ve been bringing your daughter, Felicitas,
down on the field after matches at Providence
Park. How unique is it that she gets to celebrate
with her father on the field?
“I enjoy having her on the field a lot. Now she
is a little older and she doesn’t want me to hold
her as much. She sees a lot of people on the
field and wants to run around the pitch and steal
the show. It’s a very naïve and innocent thing
because if our fans clap, she claps. If our fans
raise their hands, she does, too. It makes me
very happy because you can see how beautiful
her personality is. That is one of the most beau-
tiful things Portland has, because it allows us
to share time with our families after the match.
I hope she continues doing the same thing so
when her little sister is born, they can both run
together around the field. I know it will be very
hard for me to keep up with both of them.”
You have a unique sense of style. Have you always had a good sense of fashion,
and does that match your personality on the field?
“I know people talked quite a bit about my latest outfit, especially in Argentina. I like that a lot
because it shows how much personality one has to wear it and even though is not something I used
to do in the past, Portland is the kind of city that embraces your freedom. I always think about what
I am going to wear on match day because I’ve always said that match day is like going to a party
because you train all week and all year so you can prepare for that specific day. Match days at home
are even more special, so I hope I can come up with nicer suits later on in the season.”

Timbers midfielder Cristhian Paredes
picks three of his favorite Instagram
posts and explains their significance.

cristhianparedes_

“This is a very
special picture for
me because it was
taken the day I got
married. My wife and
I have been together
for more than three
years and we finally
got married here in
Portland, so it was
perfect. Several of my
teammates attended
the wedding and
both my wife and I
felt really happy to be
able to get married in
a city that has been
so good to me.”

cristhianparedes_

“This is a post I made

after I scored my first
goal with the Timbers and
it was definitely a very
special moment for me.
It was very exciting to be
able to score that goal in
front of our crowd, against
LA Galaxy. Even though
it was just last year, I still
remember the feeling
of scoring that goal and
seeing our fans reaction. It
was unforgettable.”

"This may look as a

simple image of an or-
dinary training session,
but that day marked
a new beginning for
me after joining the
Timbers from Club
América. I was very
happy to start a new
chapter in my career
and everybody in the
club made me feel wel-
come and appreciated,
so it motivated me to
26 share that moment via
social media.”
