DEFINICIÓN
•Debido a que el acero inoxidable es biocompatible, este puede ser incorporado en los
tejidos humanos sin generar reacción alguna con los fluidos corporales.
•Este metal es muy resistente a la corrosión y puede estar en contacto directo con el
fluido biológico.
•El acero inoxidable resulta ser un material menos costoso que otras aleaciones como
cromo cobalto o titanio.

PROPIEDADES:
Proporciona una excelente fijación • Transparencia de alrededor del 93 %. El más
primaria de la prótesis, pero no transparente de los plásticos.
promueve una fijación biológica • Alta resistencia al impacto, de unas diez a veinte veces
secundaria. la del vidrio.
• Resistente a la intemperie y a los rayos ultravioleta.
Excelente aislante térmico y acústico.
• Ligero en comparación con el vidrio
• De dureza similar a la del aluminio: se raya fácilmente
con cualquier objeto metálico, como un clip.

Desventajas
cirugía ósea
• El monómero residual puede entrar en el suministro de sangre
produciendo un embolia.
•Migración del PMMA: moléculas que pueden salir del sitio donde se
inyectaron (nariz, labios, glúteos, etc) y desplazarse por el cuerpo.
