NMXJ-00914248/1-ANCE + CSA C222 NO. 4248.07 » UL 4240-1 FEBRUARY 28, 2007 8.3 Verification of insulating materials 8.3.1 Dielectric strength 8.3.1.1 The fuseholder shall be mounted as intended to a metal surface. Fuseholders shall withstand for 1 min. an essentially sinusoidal potential of 1000 V plus twice the fuseholder’s rated voltage. Alternatively, a DC test voltage equal to 1.414 times the specified AC test voltage may be used. With the exception of item (b) in Clause 8.3.1.2, this test is to be performed with the appropriate fuse installed. 8.3.1.2 The areas of application are as follows: a) between live parts and non-current carrying metal parts; b) between live parts of opposite polarity; ©) between live parts and ground; 4d) between live parts and accessories; and ) between live parts and mounting surface. 8.3.2 Mechanical strength 8.3.2.1 The insulating materials of a fuseholder shall not be damaged when the wire connectors securing short lengths of the maximum size conductors that the wire connector will accommodate are tightened to a torque of 110% of the value marked on the fuseholder. 8.3.3 Thermal strength 8.3.3.1 For molded thermoplastic materials, the insulating materials of the fuseholder shall not be damaged when subjected for 7 h. to a minimum temperature of 70°C or to a temperature 10°C higher than the maximum temperature recorded during the verification of temperature rise test (whichever is greater). See Clause 8.4. 8.3.4 Acceptability of results 8.3.4.1 Dielectric strength 8.3.4.1.1 The insulating material shall not break down.
