TOPIC: Inclusive And Quality Education For All

Problem statement:
“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it
today”
-Malcolm X
In India more than half of the children and adolescents are not achieving minimum desired
proficiency in reading and mathematics.
Analysis:
In India 74.8% of adults are literate, among which 68% are from rural areas. 55%of people
with disability are literate. 39% of children with disabilities are out of school. 100% of
enrolment of girls in primary education but only 24.5% in higher education. 360 million is
the youth population in India, and it is highest in the world with 25% gross enrolment in
higher education with 92% of female population and 94% of male population being literate.
The Goal is to 1) Eliminate gender disparity, 2) All learners acquire knowledge and skills to
promote sustainable development among others, 3) All youths and a substantial population of
adults achieve literacy and numeracy, 4) more youths and adults with relevant skills
according the prevalent requirements. 5) Access to tertiary education for all men and women,
6) Expand globally the number of scholarship available in developing countries. 7)All girls
and boys access pre-primary education. 8)All girls and boys complete free and quality
primary and secondary education, 9) Build and upgrade educational facilities that promote
children in overcoming their disabilities and promote gender sensitization .
Solutions:
1. Make people in rural areas understand the importance of education: - This
cannot be done in a better way by people who after getting education are working in
cities. Such people should create awareness about education in the villages.
Convince people to send their kids to school.

2. Provide better opportunities after education: - Consider a farm labourer whose

income is less than 100- 200 per day. To send his son to school, he has to spend
significant amount of his earnings in school fees, books, stationery, etc. After getting
education till 10th standard, if his son is anyway going to be a farm labourer, why
would he spend money on his son's education? Such people should be made aware
of the vocational courses and encouraged to opt them.

3. Encouraging people to educate girls - 'If you educate a man, you educate an
individual. But if you educate a woman, you educate her family.' Educated woman
can provide a better upbringing to her kid.

4. Special attention to schools in remote areas: - Here I would like to mention the
work of Sujata Sahu and her NGO which works for betterment of schools in remote
areas of Kashmir.
5. Amendments in the Prevention of Child Labour Act: - Consider a family where
the father is bedridden and mother is the sole earner of the family. The child has to
work to support his mother to fulfil the basic needs of the family. According to law,
he cannot be employed. Employers illegally employee such children at minimal
wages. Amendments should be made to the present law and special provision should
be done like night schools or early morning schools.

6. Awareness of Government schemes: - The Ministry of Human Resource

Development has many schemes for promoting literacy. People should be given
information about these schemes.

Finally, we would like to mention a poem by Mahatma Jotiba Phule: -

“Lack of education lead to lack of wisdom,

Which leads to lack of morals,
Which leads to lack of progress,
Which leads to lack of money,
Which leads to the oppression of the lower classes,
See what state of the society one lack of education can cause!”
