TASK 1

“Schools which are not schools of the future will not be schools in the future”
This observation was made by the National Association of Independent Schools,
President Pat Basset back in 2011. It was made within the context of how technology
and innovations are accelerating at an unimaginable speed outside education, but not
rapidly enough within education itself.

One of the conversations that has gained a lot of momentum in the field of education is
the fact that schools are in danger of becoming ineffective and irrelevant if they do not
keep up with the economic, cultural and social changes brought on by advancements in
technology, especially with the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0) and
the invention of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The question is, how can schools adapt
quickly to these demands?

Provide a thesis statement to reflect your stand on this issue. This must be followed by
a critical review of the literature that supports your main argument. Your review must
include a minimum of six published sources (journal articles/books) You must provide
an overview of each source quoted in your write up and link all six sources to support
your own stand. Your review must be between seven and eight pages in length.

Task 2
Conduct a survey in any school of your choice to explore teachers’ views about how
prepared they are for the challenges of IR 4.0 and AI and how schools should prepare
themselves for more challenges in the near future.
i. Develop the instrument (questionnaire/interview protocol) that will be used in
your survey;
ii. Prepare a report (3-4 pages) to outline your main findings.
iii. Based on your review and investigation of teachers’ views, provide a profile of a
‘school of the future’.
