English and Music

Language
Language is our primary source of communication. It's the method through
which we share our ideas and thoughts with others. Some people even say
that language is what separates us from animals and makes us human.

There are thousands of languages in this world. Countries have their own
national languages in addition to a variety of local languages spoken and
understood by their people in different regions. Some languages are spoken
by millions of people, others by only a few thousand.

But why learn English nowadays?

English was originally the language of England, but through the historical
efforts of the British Empire it has become the primary or secondary
language of many former British colonies such as the United States,
Canada, Australia, and India. Currently, English is the primary language of
not only countries actively touched by British imperialism, but also many
business and cultural spheres dominated by those countries. It is the
language of Hollywood and the language of international banking and
business. As such, it is a useful and even necessary language to know.

English is the International Common Tongue

There are several factors that make the English language essential to
communication in our current time. First of all, it is the most common
foreign language. This means that two people who come from different
countries (for example, a France and China) usually use English as a
common language to communicate. That’s why everyone needs to learn the
language in order to get in touch on an international level. Speaking it will
help you communicate with people from countries all over the world, not
just English-speaking ones.

So we can say that English is used:

- On The Internet and Press

- to Travel and Business
- it is the Language of Hollywood
- and the language used to sing most of the songs worldwide known,
despite the country of origin
So, can we say that English is the official language of
music?
Each May since 1956 people from across Europe and around the world
have gathered around their televisions with friends and family for an
extended evening of international entertainment: The Eurovision Song
Contest. For one night every year our continent, rich with languages and
cultures, is united by music. With up to 27 finalists and 200 million
viewers, the competition may well be a fun event but perhaps it’s not the
shared celebration of European language and cultural diversity that it could
be. In the first ten years of Eurovision, the UK and Ireland were the only
two countries to sing in English. Now English is what we expect. Is it that
English is becoming, or has become the official language of music?

English is an international language spoken by over 1 billion people

worldwide. It is no surprise therefore that so many musicians make music
in English. Of course, music makes money and more listeners make more
money. Then again, perhaps English simply sounds better. According to
Ragnar Thorhallsson, singer and guitarist with the Icelandic indie band ‘Of
Monsters and Men’, his language is harsh. He thinks that English is
simpler and is easier to make rhymes. Could this be true?

Our opinion is that as we listen to the English language every day, is has
become easier for us to understand and get into the rhythm of the
songs…this is why we love songs written in English…. and music is part of
our lives…

Why do we listen to music? Is it really important in

our lives?
Many of us love listening to music because of many reasons.
First of all, it helps us to relax. When we organize a party, music is in the
center of our interest. We choose the best songs and play them to make the
atmosphere much better.
Secondly, music can make all the gloomy days more interesting and
funnier. Listening to our favourite artists during long winter days can be
like therapy for our souls.
Moreover, music might give us inspiration and also can help us to
concentrate when we learn or do some important projects. For example, the
scientists proved that listening to classical music can make our work more
effective.
Besides, spending time with the music we like can help us to rethink
difficult problems, and might contribute to overcoming obstacles that we
have in our lives.
Furthermore, music is a good alarm clock because energetic songs can help
us to get up early in the morning.
To sum up, music plays great role in our lives. It gives us a lot of benefits.
Listening to music in the car or bus when we go to school or work helps us
to relax and start a new day in a good way. In addition, music is like
medicine for us when the weather is bad and we do not feel good. If we have a
problem, many of us just turn on a good song to calm down and think what
to do next.
I think everyone should find his or her favourite band or artist because life
is much easier when music is with us.
