2. Tell me about yourself?

- My name is Ha Vy Thoai. I have completed my Aeronautical Engineering degree from University of Technology
Vietnam.
- After graduation I worked in Tokyo, Japan as a Finite element analysis engineer for one year. Because my
Japanese company was so heavily affected by the global economic crisis in 2009, I had to come back Vietnam to
work. From 2009 until now I have been working for Vietnam Airlines as an Aircraft Engineer. My work is
inspection, maintenance, repairs of aircraft systems, and I release to service for customer aircraft such as United
Airlines and Korean Air.
- One of my strengths that I’ve inherited the professional and hard working style from Japanese people, I always
try to make my customer satisfied and pleased with my service (The letter from United Director attached to my
resume is the proof)
- Another one of my strengths is quick learning and highly motivated, I learned myself in 6 months to get FAA A&P
license. Because I knew that FAA license is the way that lead to American companies where I can learn new
technologies

3. Why do you want to work at Gulfstream ?

- When I work on ramp maintenance at the airport, sometimes I see the Gulfstream aircraft parking nearby. I was
impressed with the beauty of the aircraft. Based on the research I’ve done, Gulfstream is manufacturer of the

- When I visited your web site, I found some impressive technologies that used in the aircrafts such as the
enhanced vision system, Symmetry Flight Deck with touch-screen technology.
- I watched videos on your website, and I saw there are so many people from the other countries came to work at
Gulfstream. So I can get a sense of feeling that Gulfstream’s like a family if I work there
- So This is the company I've been looking for, a place where my background, experience and skills can be put to
use and make things happen

4. Why do you want to leave your job?

- I would like to say thankful to my current company where I learned a lot of things such as maintenance skills,
work under pressure. Now this is the time to upgrade my life to new challenging environment to learn new
technologies.
- I don’t mind a slow down the pace from time to time but it is important for me to keep my career continually
moving in a forward direction. I learned myself in 6 months to get FAA license. Because I knew that FAA license
is the way leading to good opportunities such as working at Gulfstream.

5. What are your strengths and weaknesses?

- I have good communication skills (persuade Captain to dispatch aircraft with a MEL defect)
- I work well with many different types of people of various nationalites and personalities (Beside United and
Korean, I also assist the Engineer of China Airines, Aeroflot from Russia, )
- Another of my strengths is my strong work ethic, I determined to get my job done well and on time ( When
aircraft got problems, I always tried to troubleshoot correctly and fast in order to dispatch aircraft on time, If the
troubleshooting expect to take so much time I would persuade Captain to fly with MEL. Also when I worked in
Japan, Believe me, I and my japanese friends often stayed at office late and finish everything, ensuring that the
deadline was met).
- Pay attention to detail
Checklists
Terminology that reflects actual performance is more effective on a resume than overused general phrases. The
phrase "attention to detail" doesn't really say much, unless it's supported by actual methods or achievements. A
recruiter and hiring manager at Drexel University Office of Alumni Relations comments that some job applicants
say they're detail-oriented, but they don't list any accomplishments and their resumes are filled with
grammatical, spelling, punctuation and sentence structure errors. To describe detail-oriented strengths, explain
how you create checklists to make sure important details aren't overlooked. Discuss ways you review
documents and files to ensure that all forms are accurate and complete.

6. Discuss a specific work related event in which one of your greatest weaknesses was exploited. How was the
problem overcome and remedied? How did this experience make you a better employee?
- One of my weaknesses is that I am a people pleaser. It's important to me that everyone gets along in the
workplace. I always go the extra mile to help out whenever it is necessary in trying not to disappoint or let
anyone down. Once I was in a difficult situation, 3 years ago, in the United flight that I was in charge, the flight
attendant noticed me that there was one side of the Exit light cover missing near the emergency door.
According to FAR and United procedure, this would make the aircraft unairworthy. I came to talk with the
captain and United Representative that the aircraft counldn’t dispatch without the exit light cover. Both of them
pleaded me to ignore this, the captain said that let the Hongkong installed it, there must be a spare available
over there. And The representative said we couldn’t stop the aircraft due to this minor cover while all passenger
had been onboard, and all cargo had been loaded. After talking for awhile, I decided to let the aircraft fly
without the exit light cover. Everybody’s happy, except me.
- I felt like guilty for days, and I thought what if the airplane had got an incident, and some of passengers couldn’t
get out on time if they didn’t see the exit light panel guiding the way to emergency door. I told myself that from
now on I will not do that again, I must be more assertive, to better recognize which thing I should do.

7. How do you break the ice with new teams/coworkers

- You know the saying, “the way to a man's heart is through his stomach”? Well, the same can be said about this
situation. Bring sweet treats, such as cupcakes or chocolates, and share them with co-workers. Once I invited a
specialist from Boeing out for a lunch, and try to find common points. He came Vietnam for 6 months to support
Vietnam Airlines on new aircraft 787.

8. How do you handle changes with working, with customers?

- Due to global competition and uncertainty in life and in business, change is happening faster than ever
- First, we must learn to Accept. Accepting that change exists and it will continue to do so as we move forward in
life.
- Second, Stop Overthinking, over analyzing and trying to predict the future. The world is too complex to predict
the future so don't overthink everything.
- Instead, move forward and take action.
- The global economic crisis in 2009 has changed so many people lives in the world. I had to return Vietnam from
Japan to work as a programmer, then I worked as an Aircraft engineer

9. Can you tell us about one time when someone told you something they should not have, and what did you do
with that information
- One time I and two of my teammates talked about personalities of the girl who I would love. I told them I didn’t
like the girl who has the habit of going to nightclubs, and I loved the graceful and elegant woman. After several
days another of my teammates said to me that those two persons told him that I had conservative views on girl
personalities and that I was perfectionist. First, it hurted me a bit, but then I just smiled. I didn’t come to them to
clarify this, I didn’t want to get into a heated debate,so I couldn’t react too aggressively. They are my colleague
who work with me for a long period of time. If the relationship got worse, It could affect the working spirit of my
team.

10. Tell us about a time when you had to work on a team and one member was not pulling his or her own weight?
There was a time when I worked on a team in Japanese company. My team was assigned to Mesh generation on
a Finite Element Model. I got my task done and saw that person struggling, and I knew that the team success
depended on all of us cooperating and succeeding, so I offered my assistance. I showed my method of
generating mesh effectively. He was grateful to get some help, and we’ve had a great relationship ever since,
working together on several projects.

11. What salary are you seeking?

- I am flexible, and I would be willing to talk about salary in more detail if offered the position. So how much salary
do you offer me? (I am looking for a salary between $50,000 and $70,000 a year)

12. Why should I hire you over the other interviewees?

- There is the similarity of the job profile you poseted on company website to the job profile I enjoy at my current.
I mean that I inspect, maintain, and release to service for aircraft
- I’m Quick learner (I’ve studied myself in 6 months to get FAA A&P license)
- I always try to make the company customers pleased and happy (The letter from the managing director of
United Airlines that I attached to my resume is the proof)
- Great communication skills (deal with Captain and customer representatives

Gulfstream’s Computerized Maintenance Program (MyCMP), a Webbased maintenance tracking software program,
gives customers 24/7 real-time access to their aircraft status and Gulfstream support.

13. Do you think you are overqualified for this position?

- No. It’s not like that. I am sure I am the perfect candidate for this position. You are taking my interview which
also indicates that I am suitable candidate. This job is so attractive to me that I’m willing to sign a contract
committing to stay for a minimum of 3 years. There’s no obligation on your part

14. Where do you see yourself five years from now?

- I am definitely interested in making a long-term commitment to this job. Judging by what I've read about this
position, It's exactly what I'm looking for and what I am very qualified to do. So in five years I would like to look
myself more experienced, more confident at a responsible position where Gulfstream company sees me as a
valuable asset.

15. Tell me about a situation when your work was criticized

- There was a time when a flight of Vietnam Airlines was about to departure, Captain annouced that there was a
