GRADEMARK REPORT

FINAL GRADE GENERAL COMMENTS

T here are some interesting thoughts here, but you
have f ailed to get to grips with the assessment brief
and criteria. T his essay is an opportunity f or you to
use the methodology of social construction to
investigate an issue in some depth. T he brief

/0
recommends that you begin with the issues set out
in the module text book - this is so that you start
out on track, having a clear understanding of how an
issue comes to be seen as a social problem and the
importance of examining it f rom dif f erent
perspectives, drawing on evidence f rom social
research to assess which explanation is the most
plausible. T his essay is f ar too general to really get
to grips with this and f or most of it you appear to
assume that most homeless people are sleeping
rough. As Isaacs makes clear (and the other
evidence on weblearn) only a minority of homeless
people are sleeping rough. Some of them may have
individual problems such as addition or poor mental
health, but it is also necessary to understand the
part played by structural f actors and government
policies that rely on the market to allocate housing
and have reduced bef its, leaving many people unable
to af f ord rent.

Always make sure you have a clear understanding of

what is required and aim to hand in a draf t essay
plan to your tutor so they can tell you if you are on
the right track or not.
