Circular PLE 01-2019-S1

Bogotá D.C. 8 de abril de 2019

Respetados estudiantes:

(Common European Framework of Reference for the
Teaching, Learning and Assessment of Foreign Languages. (Council of Europe,

An Action-oriented Approach and Peer Learning

Taken from: Common European Framework of Reference for Languages Chapter 2 p.9
Council of Europe 2001
componentes: a.

El action-oriented approach es un enfoque “adopted in the CEFR, generally speaking, is an

action-oriented one in so far as it views users and learners of a language primarily as ‘social
agents’, i.e. members of society who have tasks (not exclusively language-related) to
accomplish in a given set of circumstances, in a specific environment and within a particular
field of action. While acts of speech occur within language activities, these activities form
part of a wider social context, which alone is able to give them their full meaning. We speak
of ‘tasks’ in so far as the actions are performed by one or more individuals strategically using

their own specific competences to achieve a given result. The action-based approach
therefore also takes into account the cognitive, emotional and volitional resources and the
full range of abilities specific to and applied by the individual as a social agent.”
"Peer learning is an educational practice in which students interact with other students to
attain educational goals." It is a mode of "learning for everyone, by everyone, about almost
anything," whether it takes place in a formal or informal learning context, in small groups
or online.
Having this in mind, there is a proposal for, both, productive skills: speaking and writing.

PROCESS TO CARRY OUT THE SPEAKING EVALUATION

1. Divide the class into 5 or 6 groups according to the number of students. The teacher
is in charge of the division of the groups. It should be done at random.
2. Teacher hands in the topic to each group. The topics should have the same level of
complexity, should be related to the themes or topics of the units studied in class and
should contain the linguistic functions and vocabulary which have been studied
through the whole learning process.
3. Once students have prepared their presentation (at least one hour) and are ready,
the teacher chooses one student at random who is the one that does the presentation
and represents the group. He/she is responsible of his/her group. The rest of the
groups have a rubric to evaluate the presentation. The presentation will last between
3 and 5 minutes the most)
4. The same procedure will be done with the other groups.
5. At the end of the presentations, groups will provide feedback to each group and
explain the reasons for their decisions. The feedback should be objective, telling the
group the relevant aspects of each presentation and the aspects that should be
improved. The groups will express their points of view for each presentation and
achieve a consensus. After that, the students will grade the presentations. The
teacher’s role is to be a guide of the process.

The aim of this cooperative work is to evaluate the process of learning of the group and not
merely to give a grade.

PROCESS TO CARRY OUT THE WRITTEN EVALUATION

1. Get the class in groups of 3 students
2. Hand in the topic and the structure of the text.
3. Provide the students with the discourse markers they have to use according to the
topic.

4. Students should have plenty of time to do the writings. Don’t put a word limit.
5. Once students have finished, they will exchange the writings and correct them
according to the rubric. The teacher helps them
6. After the texts are critically analyzed, students grade the papers.
7. Students should rewrite the text, read it aloud or get a poster with the best ones and
the teacher should praise the students.
aplican reglas o formulas descontextualizadas.

3. NO SE PUEDEN RECIBIR ESTUDIANTES ASISTENTES.
