Learn to use the pottery wheel in this beginning class that 6:00 - 9:00 pm
covers bowls, plates, and cups. Participants learn basic Shawn Baker
handbuilding techniques to broaden the scope of possible
projects. Specific pieces are demonstrated each week Section B AC1BF19
to continue challenging even experienced participants Tue Oct 8 - Nov 26
while allowing for self-exploration and the development 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
of one’s own aesthetic. Class may be repeated to continue TBD

Moldmaking and Slipcasting Clay Tue Oct 8 - Nov 26

Ever wanted to create a complete handmade ceramic
dinnerware set comprised of pieces that were identical M/$290 NM/$315
in form? Want to produce a series of ceramic sculptures
or relief tiles without having to make each one from
scratch? Ever wanted to replicate an object in clay? This
class teaches the techniques of creating one-part, two-
part, and multiple-part plaster molds and using casting
slip to replicate found objects or your own pottery and
sculpture! Create a series of identical pieces, each
comprised of ceramic shells that are professionally thin
and even. Feel emboldened to experiment endlessly with
different alterations and surface treatments without fear
of ruining a piece you spent hours and hours creating.
Open to all levels of clay artists! Price includes plaster and
clay to get started, plus all glazing and firing. Additional
materials will be available for purchase. Additional studio
time is available for enrolled students (see page 8).

Open Studio Add-On APPLICATION ONLY
Adult | Ceramics
M/$140 NM/$150
Open Studio time is a great way for current clay students to
spend additional time developing and honing their ceramic
skill. This opportunity is only open to currently enrolled MCA
ceramics students. Open Studio hours are supervised by
knowledgeable studio monitors, but formal instruction is not
included. Open Studio time is purchased on a term-length
basis. Glaze and firing costs are included with open studio
fee; however, additional clay must be purchased from studio
monitors as needed. Hours vary, but generally include at
least one evening, most weekdays, and one weekend day per
week (approximately 20 hours per week available). Contact

Independent Study APPLICATION ONLY


Adult | Ceramics
M/$205 NM/$220
Independent Study is an opportunity for artists with previous
ceramic experience to continue practicing and expanding
their skill on their own without the formal instruction offered
by a class. To qualify for Independent Study, you must have
skill in handbuilding and wheel. Students will not receive
any formal instruction and should be knowledgeable about
clay and glaze techniques as well as studio safety measures.
Glaze and firing costs are included with Independent
Study fee; however, all clay (both terracotta and stoneware
available) must be purchased from studio monitors as
needed. Hours vary, but generally include at least one
evening, most weekdays, and one weekend day per week
(approximately 20 hours per week available). Contact Visual

Draw inspiration from landscapes, fresh fruit, or even 9:30 - 12:00 pm
a photo while exploring the expressive qualities of Cathy Garnett
watercolor and other water-based media. Participants
focus on composition and effective use of value, color, M/$220 NM/$240
and a variety of glazing and painting approaches for
impact without being limited to depicting reality. This
class is geared for watercolorists and other painters
looking to improve their painting technique and create
sparkling, spontaneous work consistently and with
confidence. Demonstrations, individual instruction,
and critiques are included. Participants may work
on suggested projects or one of their own choosing.

Oil and Water Do Mix AP2F19

The luminosity and depth of oil paint have lured artists’ (No class Oct 9, Nov 27)
attention for hundreds of years. The harsh solvents 9:00 - 11:30 am
required in clean up have driven people away for nearly Ardis Tennyson-Loiselle
as long! With water mixable oils, participants can freely
explore the world of oil painting without the smelly M/$220 NM/$240
chemicals! Experiment with glazing, color mixing, and
other painting techniques in a whole new way with this
unique medium. No experience necessary. Materials list

Beginning and Continuing Acrylic Painting AP3F19

Paint with acrylics in this class for all levels of painters. (No class Oct 31, Nov 28)
Beginners embark on exercises exploring color, value, 6:30 - 9:00 pm
and composition. Intermediate painters work on their Marta Kaemmer
own projects with critiques and guidance. Whether
drawing inspiration from a family photo, a still life, M/$220 NM/$240
or contemporary artworks, participants have the
opportunity to express themselves in paint. Basic drawing
skills recommended, but not required. Materials list will

wanted to explore mark making. Participants work with 9:00 - 11:30 am

These colorful tools may often be associated with children (No class Oct 9, Nov 27)
but they can also be used by adults to create astonishing 10:00 am - 12:30 pm
beauty. Learn to utilize the unique color blending Sami Martasian
properties of colored pencils, how to incorporate them
into beautiful watercolors, and how to layer distinct colors M/$220 NM/$240
for a dimensional effect. Materials list will be posted

opportunity to share techniques, engage in stimulating

positive conversation and experimentation. Materials list

Everyone can draw! Engage with drawing in fresh, (No class Oct 12, Nov 9 & 30)
experimental ways by playing with simple abstract mark 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
making and drawing what is seen. Explore drawing Cat Bennett
with different materials such as marker, crayon, colored
pencil, brushes and paint. Draw with scissors and make M/$265 NM/$285
painted paper collages. Emphasis is on encouraging and
supporting individual visions and skills while helping
them grow. A hallmark of the class is taking inspiration
from artists who are working in the same vein. All skill
levels are welcome! Materials supplied by the instructor.
Materials fee of $25 will be collected on the first day of

creativity through the re-framing of traditional “mistakes”

which focuses on personal identity, immigration, Monica Srivastava
national identity, heritage, and race. Art is a passion
that simultaneously defines and unites different cultures M/$220 NM/$240
around the world. Venture through art over time and
distance to learn about other cultures and create works
inspired by their traditions. Explore individual identity
as it relates to larger cultural identity. Focus on cultural
exploration not as exploitation or appropriation but as
another perspective to employ in understanding personal
art in a deeper way. Materials list will be posted online

Have stories to tell, but lack the experience, motivation, 6:30 - 8:00 pm
or community to help get them down on paper? This class Zoe Schein
will take writers (and aspiring writers!) on a guided tour
of nonfiction writing genres, styles, and approaches—all
of which take memory, identity, and personal experience M/$130 NM/$150
as significant subject matter. Whether writing personal
essays, memoirs, family stories, manifestos or other
styles, this class strives to help participants find the style,
voice, and genre that suits them best. Through readings,
group workshops, and guided exercises, beginning and
experienced writers alike will be encouraged to tell their
stories, their way. This term, the class will draw inspiration
from and interact with the late fall exhibition, We the
People, which focuses on personal identity, immigration,
national identity, heritage and race.

designed to let creativity flow! Participants learn to Joe Madres
use simple molds as well as shaping and construction

Plates are ceramic pieces everyone encounters through 6:30 - 8:30 pm
sight and touch. They can be simple or very complex. Roll, Beth Dalal
stretch, and drop clay to create interesting yet functional
pieces of your very own! Participants engage in creating, M/$70 NM/$85
altering, and decorating plates of various shapes and
sizes while learning myriad techniques for working with
clay. Great as gifts or treasures to keep for yourself! Each

Modern Calligraphy AW4F19

Make words both beautiful and meaningful with your 6:30 - 9:30 pm
own personal calligraphy. Participants in this workshop Liz Roessler
experiment with pointed pens to create lettering that of Lettering by Liz
is elegant and bold. Learn the basics of hand lettering
then move on to variations which give a unique twist to M/$80 NM/$95
traditional calligraphy. Learn elegant hand lettering just
in time for holiday cards, gift tags, and more! In addition
to live demonstrations, participants receive a calligraphy
tool kit to take home and a packet of resources for putting
those new skills to use! Each registration includes one

From Fiber to Sculpture AW5F19

Learn how to needle felt 3D animals in this introductory 3:30 - 5:30 pm
class. Needle felting is a unique craft that involves dry Talia Lefton
felting wool fibers with a barbed needle specifically
developed for this process. You will be provided with M/$60 NM/$75
all the tools and materials to complete a small animal
sculpture. If you already have needle felting experience
you will be able to delve further into shaping and creating
specific details on your animal. Bring a reference photo
of your favorite animal or pet, or use one provided for
inspiration.

Venture out to a local museum with one of our 10:00 - 1:00 pm
experienced instructors! The group will look deeply Marta Kaemmer
at several pieces of art and engage in guided pencil
sketching inspired by these works. All experience levels M/$65 NM/$80

posted online prior to the workshop. Museum entry
included with tuition.

Terrarium Workshop AW7F19

In this workshop, participants learn how to create an 6:30 - 7:45 pm
ecosystem that literally takes care of itself! Select a Beth Dalal
unique glass vessel (provided by the instructor), and,
with step-by-step instructions on how to build a healthy, M/$50 NM/$65
sustainable ecosystem, create your own miniature world
of tropical plants and mosses. Create decorative elements
from polymer clay to reflect the unique personality of

such as clay sculpture, drawing, printmaking, jewelry making, felting and more! All art
materials included. Cost is $200 for members, $220 for non-members, for a party of

ONSTAGE!
WCT’s 2019-2020 season features eight productions that offer
participants of all ages the opportunity to work as part of an ensemble,

Participants in WCT’s CYC and the Visual Arts ARTery programs ignite
their passion for the arts as they delve deeply into the inner workings of
our performing and visual arts programs.

CYC Backstage

Like a Cyclorama (or Cyc) curtain enclosing a stage to create a background, WCT’s CYC
program serves as the basis for all technical/production work at WCT. CYC students
have the opportunity to explore all aspects of technical and production based theatre.
Active CYC students receive priority consideration for serving as crew members for
season productions, work alongside professional designers, and receive opportunities
(based on skill level) to design showcases and student productions throughout the year.

Core CYC members work in a mentor-apprentice


relationship with theatre professionals to complete goals
for their own learning as a part of WCT’s productions.
Students should plan to attend three group meetings as
well as at least 8 meetings/work sessions in their major
area, and 3-4 in their minor area, and set specific project
goals with their mentors in contract meetings. Training
with professionals in these areas provides students
with the skills to confidently contribute to a production
process. Successful completion of the Core program
provides students with the opportunity to lead a technical
or production process for a WCT showcase, One-Act
Festival, Spring Shorts Festival or other production
opportunities as members of the CYC Company. Core
members are encouraged to explore several areas before
choosing a focus and applying to the CYC Company
program. Completion of CYC 1 (or exemption) and
meeting grade level requirements (Grades 8-12) are both
required for participation in this class.

Level 3 - Company Tuition: None


Teen | Gr 8-12 | CYC Backstage

CYC Company members work as Professional Apprentices on select productions and


projects within their chosen specialty. Additional Company opportunities include
resume creation, co-teaching opportunities for the CYC Foundation and Core levels as
well as applicable WCT programs.

Applications for the CYC Company are reviewed on a rolling basis. Please email

Eligibility Requirements: Completion of CYC Core Training, served as a crew member in

Like an artery bringing fuel to the body, MCA’s ARTery program serves as a way
for teens to fuel their own passions for the world of art. ARTery students have the
opportunity to explore many aspects of the professional art world. Active ARTery
students receive priority interning opportunities with MCA art programs, work
alongside professional artists, administrators, and educators, and receive opportunities
(based on skill level) to participate in exhibitions and student programs throughout the
year.

Level 1 - Novice YIP3F19

Private Voice Lessons (Gr 4 - Adult)


Strengthen your voice through individual lessons at WCT! Special attention is paid to
healthy vocal technique, performance skills and stage presence, as well as general
music appreciation. NOTE: Enrollment is contingent on availability of lesson slots. To

Private Acting Lessons (Gr 4 - Adult)


In our Private Lessons Program, students work one-on-one with an experienced acting
coach to hone their monologue work, stage presence, and performance skills.

CUSTOM YOUTH EVENTS

Birthday Parties
Enjoy a theatre or visual arts birthday party at the Mosesian Center for the Arts and
Watertown Children’s Theatre! Theatre party themes include Broadway, Circus, Fairy Tale
Frenzy, and Showtime! Visual art party projects include clay sculpture, drawing, printmaking,
jewelry making, glass fusing and more! All art materials included. Cost is $200 for members,
$220 for non-members, for a party of up to 10. Some party themes such as Broadway and
clay require additional resources, and cost $300 for members, $320 for non-members. Each

Scout Badge Workshops


Workshops for both visual and performing arts badges are available for $12 per child per
instructional hour. We have workshops available for Brownies (Dancer, Potter, Painter),
Juniors (Digital Photographer, Drawing, Jeweler, Musician), Cadettes (Book Arts, Comics,
Screenwriter) and Seniors (Collage, Photography, Textile, Troupe Performer), as well as
Cub and Boy Scouts (Animation, Art, Graphic Arts, Moviemaking, Photography, Pottery,

Students discover visual and performing arts in the comfort of their own school! Mosesian

Student Matinee Performances


Watertown Children’s Theatre is happy to offer student matinee performances of our Black
Box Series productions for visiting school groups, a valuable opportunity for schools in our
community to bring their students to see educational, high-quality theatre, done by student
performers, at reduced prices. The experience includes a Study Guide sent prior to the
performance, with activities and information to engage students in the classroom before
and after attending, as well as a talk-back with the cast and crew immediately following
the performance, a chance for students in the audience to ask questions and engage in a

Homeschool Programs
The Mosesian Center for the Arts and Watertown Children’s Theatre are excited to
