To be used for Anchoring and Anchor
Watch plan & arrangements.
Should be placed in the bridge.
BRIDGE CHECK LIST
Anchoring and anchor watch
A. Anchoring Appraisal and Planning Y N N/A
1. Anchoring plan checked and approved by the Master.
Anchoring position identified taking into account:
• Availability of appropriate space at the anchorage.
• Proximity of navigational hazards including traffic.
• Scope of anchor cable required/available.
2. • Depth of water, Suitable seabed type and holding conditions.
• Tidal height checked to confirm that sufficient water is available for the duration of
the anchorage.
• Tidal stream checked with particular reference to effect on slow speed maneuvering.
• Weather conditions and available shelter.
3. Anchors, cables and winches checked and ready for use.
4. Engine room and anchor party informed of the time of anchoring.
5. Intended anchor position of the ship reported to the port authority.
6. Lights, shapes and sound signaling apparatus checked and ready for use.
7. Reduction to maneuvering speed in ample time.
8. Direction / strength of wind and current.
9. Need for adequate se room particularly to seaward to be taken into account .
10. Security measures required by the Ship Security Plan (SSP).
B. While at Anchor the OOW should:
Check at sufficiently frequent intervals whether the ship is remaining securely at anchor

by taking bearings of fixed navigational marks or readily identifiable shore objects.
12. Determine and plot the ship’s position on the appropriate chart as soon as practicable.
13. Monitor swinging pattern.
14. Ensure that inspections rounds of the ship are made periodically.
15. Ensure that proper look-out is maintained.
Ensure that the ship exhibits the appropriate lights and shapes and that appropriate

sound signals are made in accordance with all applicable regulations.
Ensure that the state of readiness of the main engines and other machinery is in
17.
accordance with the Master’s instructions.
18. Ensure vessel access control precautions are maintained.
19. If visibility deteriorates, call the Master.
20. Modify AIS status.
21. Call the Master and undertake all necessary measures if the ship drags anchor.
22. Observe meteorological and tidal conditions and the sea state.
Take measures to protect the environment from pollution by the ship and comply with

applicable pollution prevention regulations.
ECDIS system checked.

• Anchor alarm set on ECDIS with safety circle.
