I. General Information

Hours: 3 Unit duration: 10 días

Specific Objectives:

The student will be able to learn how to use the verb to be and be able to greet
people, introduce yourself, introduce others, ask for information, and give
information.

Skills to Develop:
• Can make an introduction and use basic greeting and leave-taking
expressions.
• Can produce simple, mainly isolated phrases about people and places.
• Can ask and answer simple questions, initiate and respond to simple
statements in areas of immediate need or on very familiar topics.
• Can follow speech that is very slow and carefully articulated, with long
pauses for him/her to assimilate meaning.
• Can understand instructions addressed carefully and slowly to him/her
and follow short, simple directions.
• Can understand very short, simple texts a single phrase at a time,
picking up familiar names, words and basic phrases and rereading as
required.
• Can get an idea of the content of simpler informational material and
short, simple descriptions, especially if there is visual support.
• Can write numbers and dates, own name, nationality, address, age, date
of birth or arrival in the country, etc., such as on a hotel registration
form.
• Can write simple, isolated phrases and sentences.

• Can ask for or pass on personal details in written form.

Forum Description:

After reading the material, the student will be able to participate in the
discussion forum and:

• Practice the verb to be and the correct use of it in a conversation form


in the forum.

II. Content
Verb to be, greetings, introductions and farewells
INTRODUCTION
The verb to be is one of the most used verbs in the English language. For
English as a Second Language students, the verb to be is one of the most
important verbs and also the first verb that you should learn. By using the verb
to be, ESL students can build structures related to their own personal
information, for example, name, age, nationality, profession, etc., allowing you
to communicate in English with ease.

III. Content Development

Verb to Be
The verb to be is the most irregular verb in the English language. It is normally
a linking verb showing existence or the condition of the subject. It can also be
used as an auxiliary verb when forming the passive voice.
The forms of the verb to be in English are as follows:

Greetings, Introductions, and Farewells

Introducing and greeting someone are the first thing we say to someone we
meet. In this English lesson you will learn how to greet, introduce, and say

good bye to a person. The first part of the lesson shows how to greet,
introduce and say goodbyes in a formal manner.
