1 Read the five restaurant reviews and match each statement to the correct review. (10 points)
A Horgasztanya Vendeglo, Budapest,
Hungary
Located next to the Danube below the old
castle district, this small restaurant serves
a variety of Hungarian foods but specialises
in fish dishes. This is obvious as you walk
through the door to be met by a life-sized
model of a man fishing from a small boat
upside down on the ceiling. Service is brisk
and the waiters friendly. If I had to
recommend one meal, I would suggest the
Hungarian fish soup. Perfect if you are keen
on seconds or wish to share a meal as the
metal pot it comes in holds enough to fill a
soup bowl three times. The soup is not hot
but each diner gets their own small dish of
crushed chillies and can add as much or as
little as their taste buds can stand. The
restaurant is not expensive but, be warned,
payment is in cash only.
C Zielona Taverna, Kazimierz Dolny,
Poland
In one of Poland’s most picturesque towns
can be found one of its most picturesque
restaurants. The restaurant has been built
into a large, old house and, whilst there are
larger rooms containing several tables,
more enjoyable is to eat in one of the
smaller rooms where there is only one table
and it is possible to pretend that you are
dining in your own home, served by your
own private employee. The food is
gorgeous, the portions large and, because
you are in your own room, you can take
younger members of the family without
worrying if they are disturbing other diners.
Try the deliciously tender beef cooked in
cloves, one of the specialities of the house.

Situated in the heart of the old town, in a maze
of quiet, picturesque streets, it would be easy to
miss this delightful restaurant. One thing is sure
and that is that it is certainly well-known
amongst locals as it is always busy and, at the
weekends especially, it would be worth booking
in advance to make sure of getting in. There are
three choices of seating area, a modern front
room, a darker, more atmospheric back room
full of antiques and fading photographs and a
glass conservatory, light and airy but rarely with
a free place. The menu is extensive with
something for all tastes and all price ranges.
Lamb is one of the most expensive items but
well worth the money if you can afford it.
D Leberfinger, Bratislava,
Slovakia
A delight, missed by many tourists who would
never dream of leaving the old town and
crossing the river. However, it is well worth the
walk, especially in the summer when you can
enjoy the nearby park and walk off the calories.
Whilst the restaurant looks old, it was actually
built in the late 1990s but it is an exact copy of
the original restaurant that was situated in the
old town. That was a 250-year-old building
notable for having been visited by Napoleon.
The restaurant is family friendly with a
playground and ice-cream bar. For the ravenous,
the giant schnitzel is guaranteed to be bigger
than the plate!

E Bella Musica, Brasov,
Rumania
Situated right in the centre of this gem of a
medieval city close to Romania’s ski resorts,
this underground restaurant can be found in
the hotel of the same name. It serves a
limited but interesting mix of Hungarian and
Mexican dishes, both nationalities sharing a
love of chilli and tomato-based foods. The
atmosphere in the dark, stone cellar is cosy
and romantic, the service is excellent but
the prices are what you might expect of one
of the most luxurious hotels in the city. One
option for the less well-off is to choose a
filling and nourishing bowl of bean soup.
