After Man Final Project

The Vortex, also known as Balenornis Vivipara, is a descendant of the modern

penguin, most likely the Chinstrap penguin. It is a part of a race of aquatic birds called
pelagornids. The Vortex inhabits the polar corners of the Earth, like Antarctica and
North Icy Regions. It has evolved into the largest animal in the world.
A long time before the Vortex came into being, penguins roamed and flourished
on the Antarctic lands. Before, penguins would lay their eggs on land and travel into the
water to hunt for food. This was how penguin lived before they became aquatic. Some
penguins underwent a mutation, and developed the ability to develop their eggs inside
of their bodies and give live birth underwater. This mutation led to the penguins
becoming Vortexes.
A few things had to change in order for the penguins to turn into Vortexes. The
penguins had to not only become aquatic creatures in reproduction, but their body had
to become suited to aquatic living. Their tiny, stubby feet had to become strong,
powerful flippers. The evidence that their tails were once feet is in the part in their tails.
You can see how the feet merged with the spine to make a three-prong tail structure.
The penguins also had to change their beak structure to fit their changing diet.
With an ever-growing supply of plankton, mutations built up overtime to allow the beak
to turn into a bony-sieve to filter plankton from the water. It is composed of millions of
separate bone plates, similar to the modern baleen whale’s teeth.
Lastly, the penguins had to develop their size. As the smaller penguins were
getting eaten by leopard seals and other predators, the penguins with the bigger size
mutation, as seen in modern nature, began to flourish and reproduce. Over generations,
they got bigger in size and, eventually, became the biggest animal on the planet.
In conclusion, because of all the adaptations the Vortex has acquired over time, it
is perfectly suited to its aquatic environment. The only thing that could possibly make
the Vortex even more suited to the water are gills.
