Reframing 19th-century Fashion, Dress and Textiles

We would like to invite all specialists in 19th century dress and textiles to attend a one day
symposium, provisionally titled Reframing 19th-century Fashion and Dress on Tuesday
11th June. The day is scheduled to run from 10.30 to 4.30pm. Unfortunately we are not in a
position to cover transport, but food will be provided.

The aim of the symposium is to build on the success of an initial meeting of nineteenth century
dress and textile specialists, (19th July 2018), to formally establish a nineteenth century dress and
textiles research network dedicated to promoting and disseminating research in this specialised
field.

A full timetable for the day is included below, but the morning, and first part of the afternoon
session, will feature a series of 20 minute papers, from established and emerging scholars, which
will stimulate discussions surrounding new, cross-disciplinary research methodologies and
emerging, or overlooked, areas of investigation.

The final session of the day will seek to determine the long term goals of such a body, with the
aim of establishing a network dedicated to promoting and disseminating research in this
specialised field.

This symposium is intended to provide the starting point for more ambitious and wide-reaching
future events. Therefore, should you be unable to make it on this date, but interested in learning
more about the network, we can ensure you are kept informed about the network and future
events.

If you would like to book a place at the symposium place send an email to
v.t.isaac@brighton.ac.uk outlining any dietary requirements.
