Comma:
Write an example for each of the 5 ways to use a comma:

1. A comma is used to separate words in a list. This includes separating adjectives.

2. A comma is used before a coordinating conjunction

3. A comma is used to mark of an embedded clause. (Appositive)

4. To separate names of cities and states

5. To separate the day and the year in dates

Semicolon:
Write an example for each of the rules for semicolon.

1. Use a semicolon in place of a conjunction in a compound sentence, if the


independent clauses are closely related.

2. Use a semicolon to separate units of a series when one or more of the units contain
commas. (Super Comma)

Apostrophe:
1. Use an apostrophe to show possession with a singular noun. Add an apostrophe plus
the letter s.

2. For all nouns ending in “s” (lens, cactus, bus), add only an apostrophe, without
adding an “s.”

3. Use an apostrophe with contractions. The apostrophe is placed where a letter or


letters have been removed.
