Love emerges when one person sees or notices another individual because they develop

an impression of the individual. A person might begin to admire an individual after a first

impression, and this could lead to love. In the article, Adolescence and the Teenage Crush, by

Dr. Carl Pichardt it states, “Consider crushes of two kinds-identity crushes and romantic crushes.

In both cases, the teenager feels smitten by a compelling person who captivates their attention for

good and ill.” Even different types of crushes, romantic and identity, both emerge in this

common way. This common way is being struck and excited about another individual. Tis

statement from the article shows that love can emerge very quickly and that someone does not

have to know someone else very well to take the first steps to falling in love. A first impression

is made when someone captivates another’s attention. This is how love emerges and this can be

seen in Romeo and Juliet when Romeo first sees Juliet. When he first saw Juliet he said, “Did my

heart love till now? Forswear it, sight! For I ne’er saw true beauty till this night” (Shakespeare

1.5. 52-53). Here Romeo has had noticed Juliet and he develops a first impression of her. After

developing this first impression Romeo decides that he loves Juliet. Romeo is completely taken

away when he first sees Juliet and she captures his attention immediately. He falls in love with

Juliet’s appearance but the way this love emerged is the same as what was stated in the article. In

almost every situation no matter how slow or quickly the relationship moves, love emerges in

this common way. It starts with someone noticing someone else and developing an impression of

them. Since love tends to emerge in the same way predications can be made about how long the

relationship will last. The reader can also use this knowledge to really understand why certain

events happen in a relationship including Romeo and Juliet’s relationship.
