Chemical character The Dehyquart® AU types are cationic surfactants based on C16-18 and C18-
unsaturated fatty acids from vegetable or animal origin, commonly known as
TEA-Esterquats (TEA = Triethanolamine).

Typically they may be chemically described as:

Bis-(acyloxyethyl)hydroxyethyl-methylammonium-methosulphate esterquat.

Storage a) Dehyquart® AU types should be stored indoors in a dry place. Storage rooms
must not be overheated (see flash point).
b) The packed products are not damaged by low temperatures or by frost. The
congealing point of Dehyquart® AU types also needs to be taken into account.
c) Dehyquart® AU types become clear liquids at approx. 45 – 50 °C.
d) Liquid that has solidified or that shows signs of sedimentation should be heated
to max. 50 °C and homogenized before it is processed. Please mix sufficiently
prior to use.
e) Drums that have solidified or that have begun to precipitate should be reconstituted
by gentle heating, preferably in a heating cabinet. The temperature must not be
allowed to exceed max. 50 °C. Please mix sufficiently prior to use. This also
applies if drums are heated by external electrical elements. Internal electrical
elements should not be used because of the nature of the product that could
be flammable.
f) Dehyquart® AU types must be blanketed with nitrogen if they are stored in heated
tanks (at max. 50 °C) to prevent them from coming into contact with air. Constant,
gentle stirring helps to prevent them being discolored as a result of prolonged
contact with electrical elements or external heating coils.

Materials The following materials can be used for tanks and drums:
a) Stainless steel 1.4306 - AISI 304 L stainless steel (X2 CrNi 1911)
b) Stainless steel 1.4401 - AISI 316 stainless steel (X5 CrNiMoTi 17122)
c) Stainless steel 1.4571 - AISI 316 Ti stainless steel (X6 CrNiMoTi 17122)
d) Stainless steel 1.4541 - AISI 321 stainless steel (X6 CrNiTi 1810)

Shelf life Provided they are stored properly and drums are kept tightly sealed, Dehyquart® AU
types have a shelf life of at least two years in their original packaging.

Properties Dehyquart® AU types are yellowish viscous pasty liquids at room temperature and
become clear liquids at approx. 45 - 50°C.

The above information is correct at the time of going to press. It does not necessarily
form part of the product specification. A detailed product specification is available
from your local BASF representative.

* The pH value of the Dehyquart® AU types can decrease during storage, but
this does not have any effect on their performance.
** Applying Harkins-Jordan correction.
*** Bulk products are flammable. See Safety Indications Chapter.

Safety indication When transported in bulk (Dehyquart® AU-Bulk range) esterquats are classified
as flammable. Therefore the flash point needs to be taken into account. The
Dehyquart® AU types should be handled carefully according to local regulations.
