Distributed Antenna System (DAS)
Passive
• In a passive DAS, coaxial cable is used to distribute the RF signals to
coverage antennas. The RF signal is obtained from an off-air
repeater or base station. Couplers/splitters are then used to divert a
fraction of RF signal along the horizontal floors of the building via
coaxial cabling. Passive DAS

• For application requiring high capacity, sector size is smaller and hence
medium power is more cost effective. ION-B fits this application.
• ION-B configuration provides coverage with more RU. This will be more
flexibility for future sectorization.
• Dual Fiber Core support Uplink & Downlink, multiple frequency bands,
multiple technologies and also MIMO.

Major Applications:
• Multi-band Multi-Operator coverage, especially integrated in-building
coverage
Benefits:
• Flexibility and Capacity in Sub-band Management.
• Best solution for multi-band multi-operator application.
• Multiple technologies in same band can be handled by single RF
cards, e.g. UMTS/GSM in 900MHz, LTE/GSM in 1800MHz can be
handled by single RF card. This is excellent choice for re-farm.
1. Site Survey- Initial survey of floor plans, equipment locations & special
considerations (This is often done off the floor plans.)
2. Preliminary Design- Preliminary RF link budgets, initial antenna and cable layouts,
BOMs, etc
3. RF Survey- Perform interference & propagation measurements
4. Detailed Design- Revise preliminary design based on RF survey results.
5. Pre-Construction Survey- Installer walk through- validate cable routes and
equipment locations
6. Final Design- Revised design based on changes to installation design if necessary
7. Carrier Approval- Seek design approval from carriers and authorization to connect
to networks
8. Order Equipment- Order “active” equipment following carrier approval
9. Installation- Install cables, antennas and active equipment following carrier
approval. Perform routine quality control checks
10. Commissioning- Verify RF & optical cable performance; set system gains; &
measure levels
11. System Acceptance- Connect RF signal source and measure RF coverage
