A. Identify a community of English learners from unit 2.

Monitoring English Learners

When you’re teaching it’s important to monitor English Learners because you need to see
how the English learners are talking, to see their accuracy and fluency as well as the activities
that they are developing at the moment.
It’s a process that should be doing all the time on the classroom, it could be applied more on
speaking because that’s when the teacher see how the English Learners connect the
vocabulary and grammar learned. In addition, on the writing, the teacher could check
mistakes on spelling and then encourage the learner to self-correction. But we have to keep
in mind that not all the learners develop the skills at the same rate, that’s why monitoring
offers the opportunity to assess the progress of individuals and give an indication to practice
further.

B. Present an analysis of this community containing:

Characteristics:

The community that would be monitor is an 18 person group, ideally children because they
have a lot of curiosity, besides they are more flexible and won’t be ashamed if they have to
participate in the different kind of activities that could be developed on the classroom.
Moreover, with the appropriate monitoring, these English Learns to build up a good
knowledge of the idiom, hence they will be more interested and in the future, they could learn
on their own.
Age: Ideally 8-11 years

English hour intensity: Classes of 90 minutes, three days per week.

Context:
The community might be located in a city like Valledupar, Cartagena, or Cali, belonging to
a middle-class family. The learners could study at a state school or private, it doesn’t matter
too much. Their learning purpose of them is that their parents are thinking in emigrate to an
English speaking country like USA or Canada, so the children need to learn correctly English,
taking into account a good speaking with the aim of having fluency and good pronunciation.
