(SHAPE S2.E1.2) (MA CF 2.17)
(A) Follows all safety rules as a turner by following all safety instructions while holding a jump rope
throughout the entire lesson.
(SHAPE S4.E2.1) (MA CF 2.7)
1. Minimize safety concerns by giving specific instruction and feedback to all students turning, and
emphasize the importance of turning.
2. Provide a piece of specific corrective feedback to every groups turners during the lesson.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS - What are the safety concerns? What is unique about the students
in this class?
Students can get carried away when doing fun tricks or skills. With two people in the middle and running
into a spinning rope, I just have to make sure students are responsible. Students must be in the best
interest of each other, and have some trust when doing these.
LESSON PLAN FORM
Introduction:
Sneaker check
Expectations: Good effort, challenge ourselves to be good turners.
Going to do certain tricks, two people in the middle, and running
into a spinning rope.
Safety: Holders need to follow the order, turner rules, and
equipment rules. When running in, make sure turners are going
slower, and higher
Rotation: Lead banana---> Waiter ---> Turner ---> Jumper ----> Lead
banana
- Students must get ATLEAST 2 jumps before rotating
- Always rotate towards the lead banana
Turning cues:
- Up and over the elephants back (Big circles)
- Slap, not tap the shoes
- Firmly grasp the handle
Transition: Have students find a partner. Have then those groups find
another group of partners for groups of 4. May be a group of 5.
Send students to grab jump ropes and report to a color.
Challenges: How high can you get as a group? Can you try to get higher
next round!
Two people in - Students will try to jump with 2-3 people in the middle at
a time. This requires both teamwork and communication from jumpers and
turners alike
Turners
- Make turning HIGH and SLOW
- Adjust depending on jumper speed and running in.
For the last challenge, students can run in multiple students, up to 2-3.
Transition: Have students fold up their jump-ropes, and bring them back
to long jump rope box. They will then line up for dismissal
Closure: Ask why it is important to trust each other, and be in the best
interest of each other during this activity.
