FUEL
Introduction Storage
The function of the fuel system is to contain and supply the fuel for the The fuel storage system has a three-part wing tank system and an aft

Each wing tank has a capacity of 2 185 U.S. gal (8.271 kL). The
center tank has a capacity of 1 655 U.S. gal (6.265 kL). The aft tank

Refer to Figure 1.

fuel load between the fuel tanks to keep the aircraft balanced laterally.
The fuel system measures the quantity, temperature and density of
the fuel. The fuel system has the systems that follow:

The fuel supply sequence is usually under the automatic control of the
Fuel Management and Quantity Gauging System (FMQGS). The
FMQGS keeps the fuel distribution and center of gravity within limits.
The flight crew can also make a manual selection on the FUEL control
panel and have direct control of the fuel supply sequence. The
distribution system supplies flow pressure to operate the ejector
pumps in the fuel vent system. The distribution system also supplies
alternative engine feed if there is a defective component in the fuel
system.
Indicating
The indicating system monitors the fuel level in the fuel system. The
fuel system computer uses this data to show the fuel quantity on the
engine indication and crew alerting system (EICAS). The indicating
system sends data to the FMQGS to control the automatic operation
of the fuel system. The indicating system also monitors the fuel flow
and temperature in the fuel system. The fuel flow and the fuel
temperature data indicate the condition of the fuel system to the flight
crew.
Each tank has a water drain valve to drain the water from the low point
of the tank.
