Cultura
The city is traditionally one of the cultural centres of Europe, hosting many
cultural events. Some of the significant cultural institutions include
the National Theatre (Národní Divadlo) and the Estates Theatre (Stavovské or
Tylovo or Nosticovo divadlo), where the premières of Mozart's Don
Giovanni and La clemenza di Tito were held. Other major cultural institutions
are the Rudolfinum which is home to the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and
the Municipal House which is home to the Prague Symphony Orchestra.
The Prague State Opera (Státní opera) performs at the Smetana Theatre.
Demografía
The population of Prague is aging at a faster rate than the rest of the country,
due to the immigration of citizens of working age and the decline in the birth
rate. In this way, the percentage of inhabitants of retirement age has not grown
in recent years.23
The economic prosperity at the beginning of the 21st century with the opening
to the European Union, the installation of new multinationals and the higher
salaries have attracted the productive population of the rest of the country. It
has also caused an increase in immigration, although the percentage of
foreigners is still moderate.
