- No, I havent seen him in real life. I have watched him on TV though.

- He inspires many youths and i feel inspired by him also. Gerakan Indonesia
Mengajar is the movement tha i admire him because he contibutes by iniating this

Anies Baswedan Biography

Anies Baswedan, was born on May 7, 1969 in Kuningan, a small town in West Java.
He is recognized as a prominent academic, due to his active involvement in pedagogic affairs.
Since he was a child childhood, Anies Baswedan has been familiar with the world of
organization and leadership. When he was 12 years old, Anies formed a group of young
people between the ages of 7 and 15 in his homwtown called .The club was named
‘Kelabang’, this group often held various sports and arts activities

After graduating from high school, Anies then continued his studies at Gajah Mada
University at the Faculty of Economics. During his studies at Gadjah Mada University
(UGM) (1989-1995), Anies Baswedan was active in the student movement such as the HMI
(Islamic Student Association). He also became Chairman of the UGM Student Senate. While
becoming a UGM student, Anies received a Japan Airlines Foundation scholarship in Asian
Studies at Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan

On May 15, 2007, Anies Baswedan was appointed as a rector of the University of
Paramadina. At that time Anies was only 38 years old and became the youngest rector in
Indonesia.F oreign Policy Magazine includes Anies in the list of 100 World Public
Intellectuals. In 2008, he initiated the Scholarship Program at Paramadina University named
Paramadina Fellowship.

Anies’ most notable innovation is Gerakan Indonesia Mengajar, or the Teaching


Indonesia Movement, a program that gathers youths to contribute to national education. The
Teaching Indonesia Movement recruits, trains and sends young graduates to teach in remote
regions in Indonesia.

He is also earned a Political Science doctorate from Northern Illinois University in


2005, a Master of Public Policy from the University of Maryland's School of Public
Policy and a Business Management degree from Yogyakarta's Gadjah Mada University. In
July 2010, Jordan's Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre listed him among its worldwide
500 Most Influential Muslims. In November 2010, Turkey's PASIAD awarded Anies with the
PASIAN Education Award for his education development efforts in the rural areas of
Indonesia.
