Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is when a person is forced into commercial exploitations by another

person. The transportation of the victim across international borders is also being involved with

trafficking by the transferring of any human. There have been many different trafficking

networks, the largest one was the transatlantic slave trade (1526-1866). It involves at least 12

million Africans being forced into labor without pay. These trafficking systems have been

around for a long time forcing mostly women to do many things. Alone in 2016 there was about

40.3 million trafficking victims involved. There were about 24.7% minors who were forced into

many things that weren’t consensual. 36.8% victims were forced into marriages with the person

who captured them. The total of the victims were female victims with the percentage of a high

71.1%. (“Human Trafficking”). These percentages vary in different parts of the world some of

the places where human trafficking happens is Africa and Europe. United states have human

trafficking, but we are trying to reduce the percentage of females who are taken across the

international borders. There are different kinds of human trafficking, labor trafficking and sex

trafficking. Human trafficking attacks young female women then transports them and sell them

across international borders. Labor trafficking force their victims to do labor without pay and

against their will. Farming, manufacturing, construction and domestic work. They will work long

days waking up before the sun and working past the evening.

Mexico is another main place where many things happen including human trafficking.

It’s a destination place across a border. These women who are taken/ captured face a lifelong

trauma and many kinds of diseases as in (HIV, AIDS, and STDs.) These are taken place because

when being forced the people who capture the women could’ve done many things before doing

anything to the recent young women. These people who capture these women are very precise on

who they grab and capture. They are usually on the lookout for someone people won’t really

miss or if they are alone and look like a very easy target. They will lie, threat or even force to

talk to them or help them with something. They could offer a high paying job, a relationship with

them trying to play with everyone’s head so they can think that they are here to help you. These

traffickers who capture or play with your head are called coyotes to some people. Coyotes are a

Mexican-Spanish term referring people who smuggle across the U.S.- Mexico border.

Traffickers have many people working for them they coyotes are higher than these

“Chequadores” these traffickers are lower, they work for the coyotes. They are assistants for

them always keeping an eye out at border controls, so they are able to pass the border.

“Cuidanderos” are the caretakers for the human trafficking, they are usually high school kids

who are if caught by them they will receive a less harsh punishment. Cuidanderos make a path

way for immigrants crossing the border, making a clear way by distractions. Last but least the

main traffickers “Bosses” known as “Patrones” and “Socios” they are the highest of the coyote

business (“Trafficking of Women”). Mainly they manage the finances and business aspects of

the operation. There many ways for traffickers to get young women across the international

border this is just a couple of the people who help make that happen alone the way.

Human trafficking is everywhere all around the world, hidden or even covered up. There

has been dozens and dozens of books, people finally being able to come forward, describing

everything that has happened to them all the horrors they went through. There are many people

going through lifelong traumas from the things they experienced with the trafficking. Taylor was

a victim when she was only 16. A little of her story was she met an older man at the local mall,

ended up dating him. But not long after they were together as a couple, he forced her into sex

trafficking. She was forced to make at least $1,000 a day. She was in the trafficking system for a

while and was forced to find young females and bring them as new traffickers, the traffickers

threatened her family every time she thought to do something she wasn’t supposed too. This was

just one of many horrible stories of what could happen, Taylor’s story doesn’t end up as bad as

some of the unlucky women (“State Gov”).

Human Trafficking is important to know what it is and why it happens. Most people who

aren’t that educated about this problem or not too worried about it could be the ones that are the

victims. Young girls should be educated about certain situations and this is one of the big ones.

Knowing more about Human Trafficking could prevent any young girl from being taken, they

will know what to always be on the lookout for. Solutions to avert this is to always bring

someone along with you if you are out, never go somewhere alone. Especially young girls

always take your friend with you to the bathroom, to a different store anywhere mainly during

the night. If you are alone somewhere where it’s very sketchy, do not be on your phone, always

know your surroundings and always be alert. As in if you were in a parking garage have your

keys out and ready before you get to the car. Keep your eyes out for everything, knowing the

surroundings and where you are. As you approach your car get in and immediately turn it on,

lock the doors and leave. Some young girls who could potentially be taken is that they aren’t

alert and always distracted. When they get in there, they go on their phone sitting there before

leaving and that’s when the Human Traffickers approach. There are many ways to avert the

situation better by always being alert and educated of what’s going on in the area of where you

are, at all times.

Punishments for Human trafficking currently are the different crimes the maximum of 12

years per offense. If the human traffickers already had previous convictions will receive another

5 years for each different offense. The state law also says that the courts assign fines up to $1.5

million (“vig”). Once being caught for Human trafficking they will be registered as a sex

offender. Sex offenders need to always provide their information for the internet and access to

their identities for online. Needing them for life to wear a GPS monitors, lie detector tests

randomly and trying to find somewhere to live. If you are registered you cannot live within 2,000

feet from a park, schools, etc.

In conclusion Human trafficking happens all over the world to many young women who

aren’t aware of what’s going on. Many young girls who don’t know what’s going on happens to

them. Just by knowing the situation, it could decrease the percentages of the things happening.

Everywhere around the world could just be a little safer once we start decreasing the human

traffickers and putting them away for longer than already and us just knowing the situation.
