In Out of Eden, esteemed writer and evolutionary biologist David P. Barash tackles this

uncomfortable finding: that humans are actually biologically and anthropologically inclined toward

polygamy. Drawing on decades of research, Barash presents a remarkable array of scientific evidence

from evolutionary biology and cross-cultural studies that guide the reader through the hidden impacts

of polygamy on such crucial behavior as violence, parenting, sexual preferences, adultery and efforts at

monogamy itself, along with mind-bending speculation about the possible role of our polygamous

predisposition when it comes to human genius, homosexuality and even monotheism.

This book talks about the science and background of why humans practice polygamy. In the

print the author whom is a biologist gives the science behind the polygamy. This book provides evidence

that will help me understand ad support my thesis and topics of this paper. David P. Barash supports the

central idea of my topic. The author uses descriptive details that support the negative affects polygamy

has to offer.

Afro-American family and the origins and early development of Afro-American culture. Herbert

Gutman, a professor of History at City College of New York and the Graduate Center of the City

University of New York, spent ten years preparing this work. The study reaches back into the eighteenth

century and moves forward to the Harlem tenements of 1925. Frazier believed that widespread

disorganization of family life among blacks had affected their ability to adjust to the larger white world.

He spoke of the lack of stability in black family life, its resulting lack of traditions, and a casual,

precarious, and fragmentary life. Interestingly, Alexis de Tocqueville (Democracy in America, 1835) put it

similarly a century earlier. He believed that every motive which compels a free man to a “lawful union”

was lost to the slave by the simple fact of his slavery.

This medium explains the effects of split family can do to a black family. My topic refers to the overall

affect polygamy has on the wives and children. This really wouldn’t be a good source because it doesn’t

support my topic. But I could use this book to because he does talk about multi-spouse marriage in this

book. The author Gutman explains the life and family of black people and how they struggle.

There are three basic reasons for polygamy which are a scarcity of adult males, desired traits in men and

females do better when sharing a someone who depends on independent. Thirty-Two countries where

resources-defense polygamy in birds. The most important reason that polygamy is out of place in the
modern world is that it works best in agricultural societies where children contribute to farm labor and

can care for livestock.

This medium would support my paper strongly because it give in depth details on my topic. The

main idea of this article explains some of the affects polygamy has on children. Using them in children

labor for an example. This article also supports some of the religious aspects of my paper. Even though

religious people and the bible supports polygamy how come adultery is one of the Ten Commandments?

The beginning of polygamy started with Joseph Smith in 1830, who started the Mormon Movement

which altered the religious role of men. Due in part to this powerful role of men in helping to save the

people they loved and brought to heaven, Mormonism attracted proportionally more male converts

than any other American religious movement of the time. Smith preached that the role of men includes

polygamy. Rumors were spreaded that polygamy was practiced by a smaller church. After the murder of

Smith Mormons migrated to Utah and under the leadership of Brigham Young. By 1880’s an estimated

twenty-thirty percenyt of Mormon were families that practiced polygamy. The Mormon theologians

herald polygamy as a core doctrine and as evidence of patriarchal manliness.

In this article it gives the background of when and where polygamy all started. Its gives the base

of the paper to support the main topic. The author of the article explains the specific dates of when this

group of people moved and why they moved. The article outs in detail the support needed to explain

why polygamy has negative effects and who is affected.

This source support my topic giving the ethical and legal issues of having a polygamous

marriage. The author of this article explains the court case of the famous TLC show sister wives. The

same religion pops up to support why polygamy apart of religions is. The Mormons support this heavily.

The court case support legal, ethical and social issues that deal with polygamy. Starting from the home-

town it originates from. So this article does support my paper in full details giving real-life examples.
