Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection,
maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with
suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing
fluids. Refer to "TOOLS AND SHOP PRODUCT GUIDE, NENG2500", for tools and supplies
suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local
regulations and mandates.
1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system below the level of the water temperature regulator into a
suitable container for storage or disposal.
3. Remove four bolts and pipe (1) from the cylinder head. Remove gasket (2) and water temperature
regulator (3).
NOTE: The following steps are for the installation of the water temperature regulator.

5. Put pipe (1) in position on the cylinder head, with the plug toward the front of the engine. Install the
bolts that hold it.
6. Connect the radiator hose to pipe (1) and fill the radiator with coolant to the correct level. See the
Operation & Maintenance Manual.
