Teaching Portfolio Rationales

Part I: Describe a teaching artifact that represents the overall HTSB Standard
HTSB Overall Standard Standard 9 - Professionalism
Teaching Artifact Digital Media Course Year Plan
Course ED 311A
Teaching Artifact Description The course year plan for 1st year Arts & Comm. Course is designed to
give students an introduction to Graphic Design, Photography,
Animation, Video Production and Web Design.
Teaching Artifact Results Students who successfully complete the 1st year program develop their
design, software, and production skills to focus on real world client work
and building their portfolios in the 2nd year program.
Part II: Connect the teaching artifact to sub-standard and assess our proficiency
Sub Standard 9.2 CANDIDATE HELPS STUDENTS’ ACHIEVE THEIR FULL POTENTIAL
Connection to Artifact The course design uses research-based curriculum coupled with industry
standards to give the the student a hands-on skills based learning
experience. The class is student centered and the instruction allows
students to learn in their own way.
Self-Assessment 4-Candidate ALWAYS does this as a teacher
3-Candidate MOSTLY does this as a teacher
2-Candidate SOMETIMES does this as a teacher
1-Candidate RARELY/NEVER does this as a teacher
NA-Candidate did not have the opportunity to do this
NS-Question is confusing ambiguous, or difficult to rate
Evidence of Self-Assessment Students have a lot of input in what assignments they do for the class and
create their own workload based on their learning style. Students are
given projects that let them explore the content and develop industry skill
sets. Quick learners are allowed to advance while others can take the
time to master the skill.
Part III: Improve your proficiency for the HTSB Standard
Sub Standard to Improve 9.6 - CANDIDATE IS RESPECTFUL TO EVERYONE
What to Improve? I believe I am respectful to the parents, colleagues, and community, but I
would like to make more contacts to the community.

Implementation of Findings The resources explain why and how to create partnerships with the
community as a teacher. I even found a resource specific to Hawaiian
culture. As a CTE teacher I feel the best way to engage the community is
to create an event the community can attend that promotes the students,
the program, and the culture of the community.
