3007.95/1 feet cubed x 1yd3/ 27ft cubed = 3007.95/27 yards cubed = 111.41 cubic yards needed
COST FOR TRUCK LOADS NEEDED
$30 per truckload on top of the soil cost. Each truckload can deliver up to 18 cubic yards.
$18 PER CUBIC YARD – Sold in ¼ cubic yard increments
Need to round up on cubic yards from 111.41 to 111.50, since the soil is sold in ¼ increments.
Delivered in 18 cubic yards since .19 cubic yards left over they need a 7th delivered with a partial load
Soil Cost
111.50 since it’s sold in ¼ Cubic Yards
111.50 cubic yards x $18 = $2007 Soil Cost
Cost = (7 loads x $30) + $2007 Soil = $210 + $2007 = $2217.00 for delivery and cost of soil
Truckloads required
6.67 ft long x 5.75 ft wide x 1.67 ft long = 64.05 cubic ft per truck load
64.05/1 cubic ft x 1yd cubed/27 cubic ft = 64.05/27 = 2.37 cubic yards per truck load
Need 111.50 cubic yards, truck carries 2.37 = 111.50/2.37 = 47.05 loads or 48 trips to the store
Gas Cost
9 miles x 2 roundtrip = 18 miles round trip
18 miles round trip/17 miles to gallon = 1.06 gallons of gas used per trip
1.06 gallons per trip x $3.79 gas price = $4.02 price per trip
Soil Cost $2007 + $192.96 in gasoline = $2199.96 Total cost if driving to pick up soil.
Conclusion:
$2217 (Delivered) – 2199.96 (Pick up yourself) = $17.04 saved if you pick up the soil yourself
My Recommendation:
Although it is cheaper to pick up the soil, I would recommend having the soil delivered. Spending the
extra $17.04 is worth the time saved and any wear on your personal truck from traveling 48 times to the
store. That extra mileage on your truck depreciates its value. Plus, the time spent is invaluable. For
example; 40 minutes each trip x 48 trips = 32 hours
