FOREWORD
This technical manual covers the Taurus™ 60 Gas Turbine-Driven Generator
Set designed and manufactured by Solar Turbines Incorporated in San Diego,
California. Procured under Solar Project Definition No. 7257 by Modec Inc. for Cuu
Long-Conoco, this equipment is designated for the Su Tu Den Field Development
offshore installation site, southeast of Vietnam.

Training for this and other equipment is available. For the latest class and

TECHNICAL MANUAL OVERVIEW

The technical manual is provided in a four-volume set. All part numbers referred to
within the manual set are Solar part numbers unless otherwise specified. Each volume
of the set stands alone and is described in the following paragraphs.

Volume I - Systems Operator’s Guide

Volume I was prepared specifically for the equipment operator. Step-by-step

procedures for starting, stopping, and operating the equipment are provided. Safety
precautions are included to aid in the safe operation of the equipment. Functions
and locations of various controls and indicators are described and illustrated in
detail. Component nomenclature, alphanumeric characters in parentheses in the
text, for example (S388), corresponds to the reference designator identification used
in schematics and drawings.

Volume II - Maintenance Instructions

Volume II is an in-depth equipment presentation for maintenance and field service

personnel. Information identifying major components and systems, along with
general, functional, and component descriptions, is provided. Detailed maintenance
instructions, along with required alignment and checkout procedures, are also
provided. Alphanumeric characters in the text, for example (S388), correspond to the
reference designator identification used in schematics and drawings. The introduction
of the volume also provides site and structure considerations, maintenance schedules
for preparing a maintenance plan, general maintenance procedures, and standard
manufacturing references.

Volume III - Supplementary Data

Volume III contains supplementary or vendor information, which covers

vendor-supplied components and assemblies not covered or fully discussed in
Volume II, Maintenance Instructions. Data in this volume is arranged and tabbed
alphabetically by manufacturer, as listed on the Supplementary Data sheet furnished
in the front of this volume. The data contained in this volume is intended for use by
Solar field service technicians only.

Volume IV - Illustrated Parts List

Volume IV contains lists of part numbers, part names, quantities required, reference
designators, and engineering style line drawings to locate parts used in the turbine
package. Various indexes are provided to aid the user in locating piece parts within
the package.
