PP4- Project – A word of warning

Please make sure that you read and understand the GPL and the CERN-OSH licenses before you start building
the machine and start spending any money.

Please note:

 This machine / software and electronics are a work in progress. They are not yet finished. There may
be major changes in the future or the project may also be finished or delayed without warning.
 There may be a lot of errors in the technical documentation. Please double check everything you
build.
 This machine is not cheap. The estimated cost, not including the feeders and Embarcadero Delphi, are
around 3000 to 3500 Euros if you buy all parts new. The estimated time to build the machine 3 to 6
month working 20 hour a week.
 The will be absolutely no support from me. You are fully on your own. I will not even be able to
answer questions due to limited time. I will ignore any e-mails asking me for help on building parts or
asking for new program / hardware versions.
 I will also ignore any mails asking me: "Why didn't you do this that way?" or "I would have done this
that way". I am a professional designer – Nobody has to tell me how to do things.
 Make sure that you can get all the parts that you need before you start building the machine. Some of
the companies I sourced parts from do not deliver to private persons.
 You will have to build electrical parts that are connected to mains. Make sure that you know what you
are doing and that you know and follow the regulations in your country.
 This machine has some limitations regarding the components it is able to handle. It cannot handle:
o MELF or any kind of "not flat" components
o Irregular shaped components that need vision alignment
o Components that are higher than 10mm or bigger than around 40mm by 30mm

I would suggest that you do have the following tools to build the machine:

 A manual lathe with all tools needed for the project

 A manual mill with a milling head that can be turned by 90 degree with all tools needed for the project
including an indexing device
 A 3 axis CNC mill with a working area of at least 250mm by 400mm including all software to operate it.
 A table saw
 A drill press
 Thread cutting gear, a couple of reamers, a small saw-blade to cut PCB's
 A metal cutting shear
 Soldering equipment for 0.5mm pitch parts, an oscilloscope for finding errors, laboratory power
supply, a PIC programmer / debugger (e.g. PICKIT 3).
 Knowledge on how to tune PID-Loops
 Embarcadero Delphi XE4, I would suggest the "professional" version but the light version for private
use may do and programming skills in Delphi.
