VALID INTERLOCUTOR
WHEN IT COMES TO
ECONOMIC, LEGAL AND
SOCIAL PLANNING

Architecture 3

The CNCT (National Confederation of

Work Cooperatives) is a union organiza-
tion that brings together more than 30
federations of workers cooperatives from
all over Argentina. It was born as a result
of the maturation and organizational
growth of the cooperative movement and
the irruption of the self-managed worker
in the work environment. The relevance
of projecting an institutional venue for
this organization is based on the
importance of strengthening it, with the
aim of establishing itself as a valid
interlocutor when it comes to economic,
legal and social planning in the coopera-
tive work environment. In these moments,
it is key to seek improvements in the
relationships with the different structures
of the State, as a unified body, because
experiences indicate that cooperatives
that work in isolation are weaker.

The programme is created after several

talks and meetings with the CNCT, with
the intention of diagramming its needs,
Section + View and in turn, projecting the growth of the
CNCT Headquarters institution, consolidating its role in the

Argentine political layout. The public

spaces contain the areas of direct
contact with visitors, such as the
reception, the corresponding public
attention offices for each federation and
the institution, and a sales / exhibition
space, where each federation will have
the possibility to show the public their
products or services.

The auditorium stands as a fundamental

piece of the whole, granting the CNCT a
space for congresses, large-scale
meetings and press conferences, which
positions its institutional significance.

Finally, the classrooms and workshops

define the formative nature of the
institution, where the CNCT opens its
doors for the training of the staff of the
federations and the general public,
focusing their courses on cooperativism,
social economy, self-management and
access to productive loans.

SEEKING TO BECOME
A TRUE CENTER OF
URBAN MOBILITY

Bordeaux ENSAP

The project is based within the idea that

the issues of urban logistics should be
taken into account from the start of new
urban projects. Therefore, this project
sought to merge two programs: on one
hand, urban logistics, and on the other
hand, a public program of proximity for
the inhabitants of the neighborhood
involved. These two programs coexist in
the same building, seeking to become a
true center of urban mobility.

The building was designed as a place

where logistics will be the excuse for new
uses, for new activities. It was thought as
an exchange hub between two different
worlds that currently intersect, although in Project image
very irregular ways. The objective was to Rooftop garden

generate a constant and mutual improve-

ment, seeking to break with the existing
prejudices around technical programs, so
that they can work together in harmony,
strengthening themselves, so that in the
ideal of this cohabitation, there is room
for the emergence of new ways of living.

This building will then become a true

place of life and exchanges. Programmes
such as day care or parking allow the
building to play a central role in the
neighborhood. Therefore, it will be
possible for anyone who works nearby to
park their vehicle, or pick up their children
from the nursery, have a work meeting
with colleagues or enjoy the terrace
gardens. This last level seeks to consolida-
te itself as a large garden in the neighbor-
hood, where it is possible to organize
events and meetings, both for residents
and for different associations.

The pursuit of the urban proposal

consisted in working with the existing
material altering its relationship logics.
The development of a new urban form
promoted by and for the citizens /
inhabitants of Don Torcuato and the
neighborhoods nearby with the support of
the local and national government,
encouraged the creation of spaces for
local meetings and exchange. In order to
do this, the train was identified as a lead
protagonist, and we acted on it to
resignify its form as an urban barrier, that
only relates metropolitan activities, into a
local infrastructure that concentrates
programmes and invites citizens to
organize around it. Therefore, a new urban
form was created, one readable by its own
limits which work as a frame to recover the
most attractive characteristics of the city:
the coexistence of differences in the
metropolis.

FOSTER AND GATHER

GENDER MAINSTREAMING
PROCESSES

Design and Gender Studies

In the wake of the investigation on the

Mocha Celis High School, a social
educational project born in the year 2011
to give an answer to the demand of
including the trans community in the
educational system, I have developed a
building project for a government
institution that could foster and gather
gender mainstreaming processes.

The triggering question was “Who was

the announcer of the speech that leaves
this school abject, that allows transexuals,
transvestites and transgenders, the power
to revert their situation of exclusion, to
educate themselves, to belong and to
exercise a full citizenship. The issue of
inclusion addressed above had to
respond to the visibility of other identities
that also want to develop their citizenship
fully and to the rejection of the standardi-
zed neutral and universal form . This was

private spaces with the public environ-

ment and its location in a symbolic place
in Buenos Aires.

The objective then was to project a

building that houses the Secretariat of
Gender and Sexual Diversity, under the
Government of the City of Buenos Aires.
Thus, the State could fulfill its role of
enunciator, legitimizing and generating
inclusion, allowing subjects to name
themselves, without forcing a prior
labeling, redefining in this way new
parameters that shape the environment,
where the private sphere is linked to the
public one in various ways. The project
also intended to develop a more
humane architecture that does not
discriminate against identities and thus Exterior project image

AN INCLUSIVE, FLEXIBLE
DESIGN THAT DOES NOT
PURSUE THE NEUTRAL
AND UNIVERSAL FORM
Project image

Architectural Project

My final university project was aimed at

incorporating gender perspective into
design thinking, with the objective of
developing an inclusive, flexible design that
does not pursue the neutral and universal
form, so widespread in architecture. The
articulation between the fields of design
and gender studies results in an interesting
device to reflect on symbolic violence, on
the construction of stereotypes and on the
reproduction of hegemonic speeches.

The building is located in one of the most

important slums in Argentina, which is
currently undergoing an immense process
of reurbanization by the national authorities.
The objective of the project was the full
integration of groups which are usually
neglected by society and public policies,
such as women who are victims of

gender-based violence, the trans collective Auditorium floor plan

and the elderly. To this end, the program
places special emphasis on its capacity to
integrate, that is, it will utilize the mix of
uses involved to mainstream the gender
perspective.

Firstly, the main idea of the project was to

make all the ground floors of the buildings
public, seeking to open the visuals,
generating spaces for meeting, socialization
and play. Social housing takes a leading
role, as it is also thought of in terms of
common spaces, that is, they were
projected so that their inhabitants can share
and interrelate in different ways. As the
programme recognizes the most private
uses, such as the bedroom and the
bathroom, the rest is constituted collecti-
vely, encouraging the action of sharing,
which is key to the integration of the
inhabitants.

The rest of the programme seeks direct Auditorium axonometric

dialogue both with the inhabitants of the diagram
neighborhood and with those of the
dwellings. Therefore, it is complemented
with an educational programme: a nursery
and a trade school. A medical center for
initial care was also planned, which is
extremely important for access to primary
health, essential in the dynamics of the
neighborhood in the face of its shortco-
mings. Finally, there are two semi autono-
mous programmes: a market and an
auditorium, which seeking to promote
activities and encourage interaction into the
project, and also to become work sources
for all those residents of the complex that
may need it. The whole project is implanted
in an immense park that tries to constitute
itself in a center of attraction and play not
only for the residents, but also for all the
inhabitants of the city.
