ASSESSMENT CONDITIONS
Assessment will be completed in class and in your self-study time. You will be able to access any relevant resources
through the online learning system at http://abs.qld.edu.au/resources. You must keep a copy of your assignment or
project.

You will be allowed two attempts on this assessment. That is, if your first attempt does not meet the performance
criteria, you will be given the opportunity to resubmit once only. If you require a second attempt, this must be
submitted within the duration of your course.

Overview and Tasks

Overview
During this assignment, you will take on the role of a project manager at a web design company. Your client has
commissioned you to build and deliver a Wordpress (wordpress.org) website and provide training materials to help
their staff their update it.

Your client will be a fictional company named ‘ABS Music News’; a small but growing company based in Brisbane,
Australia. They have stated that they require the following:
 A well planned, dynamic and modern looking website
 Online content (text and images) must be easily updated by their team
 The website has different levels of user access (administrator, contributor, visitor)
 No restriction to the amount of pages or posts
 An area (sidebar) for advertisements that change regularly
 A Search bar
 Home page of featured/latest news and articles
 Image gallery
 A banner of featured content / promo images that rotates it’s content
 Training materials to accompany the delivered website

Task 1: Project Plan (Project Management Document)


You will create a formal project plan that will be used by your management and production team. It must include the
following:
A. The Business Opportunity – As a web design business, you must define how your profit is being made on this
project. You should indicate exactly what you would charge the client for, what expenses you have what areas
for ‘upselling’ exist - consider what future work may arise as a result of successful completion.
B. Project Stakeholders - Identify the stakeholders within this project and describe their relationship or
involvement.
C. Schedule and Task Breakdown – You must compile a realistic schedule for the project from start to finish. You
must indicate all of the tasks and steps involved with planning, budgeting, producing, testing and reviewing the
project as well as all essential milestones and client meeting points.
D. Allocate Task Responsibilities – based on the schedule and tasks generated previously, you should indicate how
these tasks would be distributed or outsourced within a professional web design organisation. Describe the
role & responsibilities of each team member working on the tasks.
E. Additional Resources – You must identify what is required to complete this project. You should consider the
following:
i. Software
ii. Plugins & Themes
iii. Hosting & Domain Names
iv. Consumables
F. Contingency Plan – In case anything goes wrong or changes during the project, you must create a process and
strategy that accounts for unforseen circumstances or changes to the project. You must identify and provide
solutions for each of the following factors whilst explaining how they will be monitored:

Task 2: Training & Support Materials
Before you hand over your website to the client, you must create an appropriately formatted training and support
document that will be used to help them to maintain and update the product. You should aim to include the
following within your user support documentation (most of which can be found at www.codex.wordpress.org):

C. Technical Support contacts / Links
D. How to update content (posts & pages)
E. How to change the theme
F. How to update widgets
G. Commonly used WordPress settings

Task 3: Client Sign-Off Documentation (Feedback)


In preparation for project development and completion, you must draft a document that can be used for the client
to sign of at each phase of the project (planning, testing, product training, etc) and at final delivery – It should
include sections/questions used to collect feedback from the client.

Task 4: Project Evaluation


When the project is completed, you must evaluate your experiences and the lessons learned. Your focus should be
on what you think worked well and what you would change in future project management activities.
