Lesson Plan in Statistics and Probability

(Grade 11)

Mr. Marvin J. Lachica June 19, 2019

Teacher Date

I. Objective: At the end of the lesson, the students in Grade 11 are

expected to:
a. Classify a decision process as one that makes use of
inferential statistics, or not;
b. Illustrate point and interval estimation;
c. Differentiate point from interval estimation.
II. Content:
Topic: Concepts of Point and Interval Estimation
PRE-REQUISITE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge in sampling and sampling distribution.
Reference: Statistics and Probability (Book and Teachers Guide)
TEACHING GUIDE FOR SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL Statistics
and Probability
Materials: PowerPoint, Chalk
Method : Deductive
Values: (1)Critical thinking; (2)Self Confidence; (3)Determination

III. Procedure:

A. Preliminaries
a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Checking of attendance and cleanliness of the classroom

B. Lesson Proper

a. Review

Guide Questions:
1. Anyone can recall what did we discuss last meeting?
2. What is a sequence?

b. Motivation
The teacher will ask the students to write on ¼ sheet of paper
the following
1. His/her “best” guess of your age by giving a single number
2. The same as in Number 1, but this time he/she should give a
range of values wherein your age would most likely fall
3. Ask the student to rate his/her confidence from 0% (not confident)
to 100% (very confident) in his/her educated guess of the range of
values in Number
Then, the teacher will all the papers.

Guide Question:
1. What are your insights in this verse?

c.Presentation
The teacher will present the idea of Olbers Comet:

Olbers Comet - is a periodic comet with an orbital period of 70

years and was discovered by Matthias Olbers.

Guide Questions:
1. If this comet was first sighted here in the earth last
1956,when will be the next sighting?
2. Enumerate 5 consecutive years that Olbers comet
will be sighted here on earth starting from 1956.

1956 2026 2096 2166 2236

Guide Question:
1. What have you observed on this set of numbers?

Follow up statement:
 That set of numbers is an example of an
Arithmetic sequence.

Follow up example:
ARITHMETIC SEQUENCE
2 4 6 8 10 ..............
-5 0 5 10 15 ............

NOT ARITHMETIC SEQUENCE

2 4 6 8 9 ..............
1 1 2 3 5 ..............

Guide Questions
1. What do you think is the reason why those set of numbers
is considered as arithmetic while the second set of
numbers were not?
2.Can you consider this set of numbers (10,25,30,40.....), as
an arithmetic?
3.Based on the illustrations and examples, how will you define
an arithmetic sequence?

d. Discussion

ARITHMETIC SEQUENCE – a sequence of numbers such

that the difference between the consecutive terms is constant.

Finding the next few terms of an arithmetic sequence.

Example 1: 2, 4, 6,8,10,__, __,__ ?

Answer: 12,14,16

Example 2: 3,8,13,18,__,__,__?
Answer: 23,28,33

Follow up question:
 What if you are asked to find the next 20th or
100th term of a certain arithmetic sequence?

Follow up example using above formula:

Example 1: What is the 30th term in this arithmetic
sequence (3,6,9....)

Solution:
an = a+ (n - 1) d
= 3 + (30-1)3
=3 +(29)3
=3+87
=90

e. Follow up Activity
Consider this arithmetic sequence;

1, 4, 7, 10, 13,....

Guide Questions:
1. What is its common difference?
Answer: 3
2. Find the next three terms in the above arithmetic sequence.
Answer: 16, 19, 22
3. What is the 28th term of the given arithmetic sequence?
Answer:
an = a+ (n - 1) d
= 1 + (28-1)3
=1 +(27)3
=1+81
=82

f. Evaluation
I. Determine the common difference and find the next three
terms of the given arithmetic sequence.

1. 2, 5, 8, 11, __, __, ___

2. -12, -8, -4, __, __, ___
3. 21, 25, 29, __, __, ___

II. Find the 23rd and 24th term of the given arithmetic
sequence.

1. −7, −9, −11, −13, ...

2. 9,14,19,24,......

IV. Assignment:
Research about Arithmetic Series.
