Sunnis SERVICE/PARTS Topics [cummins Engine Company, Inc., Columbus, Indiana U.S.A. 47201 danuary, 1973 File Group 17 No. 7317-1 Ret.: (A) Inline Engine Filmcard 72, Group 17.05.8, SPL72L17-18 ‘Standardization of “"V" Belts (All Models) Many "V" belts can be eliminated from inventory by standardization of comparable factors and obsoleting those found within specifications of the suporseding belts, Listed bolow are the basic factors considered to eliminate the obsolete "V" belts 1, Width of the belts to be the some; however, length can vary but must not exceed 0,500 inch maximum variation in length. 2. “Cog” type belts can be used as replacement of "solid" type; do not use “solid” type to raplace “cog” type belts, 3, Belts of “Polyester Cord” can be used as replacement of "Rayon" type; do not use “Rayon” to replace “Polyester Cord” belts, 4, Belts used on government contracts dasignated as "cold-weather" type should not be replaced by commercial belts, nor should "oold-weather”” type be used on commercial applications. 5. When placing orders for ““V" bolts: Quantity one (1) equals one (1) belt, An order tor quantity three (3) of a given part number will be filled with three (3) matched belts, Caution: Never mix old and now belts where matched sets Of ‘belts are required. Should a single belt fail, replace all bolts in the set. Note: Please remove and destroy Service/Parts.
