Introduction

Frogs are animals belong to the group of Amphibia. Amphibians are animals that can live both
on water and land. The word amphibian means “both life”. Frogs have skin that water can pass in and
out which makes them spend most of their time on water. There are 3 order of amphibians classified
which are; frogs, toads and salamanders.

Frogs have smooth skin, powerful back legs and webbed fit which helps them to jump on great
distances as well as swim. They also used their legs to dig, or burrow underground for hibernating. Frogs
have bulging eyes that provides them to have sight on any direction. Their nostrils are located on top of
their head for them to be able to breathe while the rest of their body are submerged into the water.
Frogs have tympanic membrane behind each eye which allows them to pick up sound waves and carry it
to the internal ears. Frogs tongues are sticky and designed to flicked and pick up prey insects.

In this activity, the dissection of frog helps the student to classify the organs of the frog. The
fand to learn the organs of frog.

Methodology

Materials

-Dissecting Kit -Cotton Ball -Jar -CCL4 (Chloroform)

-Dissecting Pan -Pins -Gloves

-Live Frog -Mask -NaCl (Salt)

1.) Get the frog and put it inside an empty jar

2.) Put a right amount of Chloroform on a cotton ball and put the cotton ball inside the jar.

3.) Wait until the frog is unconscious then place it on the dissecting pan and quickly pin the both hands
and feet.

4.) Using the forceps, pull the skin and make a tiny hole then cut it vertically with scissor or using scalpel
until it reached the upper chest part and cut horizontally from left arm to right arm. Continue to cut the
skin from left leg to right leg.

5.) Separate the skin from the muscle using the scalpel. Pin the skin on the dissecting pan.

6.) Start the incision on the abdominal part working the way up and carefully avoid the arteries, veins or
any of the organs. Make a horizontal incision for the left to right arms and legs.

7.) Locate the heart and cut the aortae. Count how many heartbeats would it make in 1 minute with 3
trials. Quickly place it in a glass container then put formalin.

8.) Observe what happens with the heart. Count how many heartbeats would it make in 1 minute.

9.) For the leg part, choose any of the both legs. Remove the skin and locate the joints remove it in from
the body of the frog.
10.) Place the leg on to the glass container and then put NaCl on it. Observe if the muscle contracted or
how it reacts with the salt.

11.) Wash every blood left on the frog and lastly, put the frog on the container which has formalin
together with the heart.
