Background: Head injury is the leading cause of death due to blunt trauma and
sharp trauma causing lacerations resulting in bleeding. Widespread bleeding will
push the brain and cause intracranial pressure, if the intracranial pressure is not
resolved there will be herniation. Herniation if left untreated will suppress the
brain stem so that the frequency of breathing rhythm is disrupted so that the
exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide is unbalanced causing the disturbance of
gas exchange. The purpose of this case study is to draw emergency nursing care in
head injured patients with gas exchange disorders.
Method: This Scientific Writing is a case study describing the condition of 2
patients suffering from head injury. The tools used to retrieve data are checklists
and interview sheets. The data obtained were analyzed by narrating the data
obtained by comparing the existing theory.

Outcome: Focus assessment was conducted on secondary examination ie

investigation where it assessed oxygen saturation with fulse oximetry. The main
nursing problem that arises is a gas exchange disruption. Actions taken with
oxygen delivery as nonpharmacological therapy, accompanied by ABCDE
treatment as emergency management.

Evaluation: performed for 1 hour, the result obtained is the value of SaO2 from
<95% to> 95%.

Conclusion: As an emergency nurse we should pay special attention to secondary

pengkajain especially investigation in case of head injury with gas exchange
disorder.
