“Get a Knife, Get a Dog, But Get Rid of Guns”

The most hated topic to talk about in the United States. Something that is an amendment to us,

but people do not want to talk about because it always starts an argument worldwide. As Ivin´s

open her story, the first thing she talks about how guns are everywhere; however; you do not see

people running around trying to stab each other with a knife. As reading this paper you will see

examples of the logos, pathos, and ethos a how they affect the article.

Logos is a huge play in this article. Logos are used in a way for the reader to be

persuaded that something is proven. Now, Ivins is trying to prove that guns are not a bad thing,

but also they are. They are not being used as they should be. They are being used to kill people,

to rob and threaten people live. Ivin has a sense of humor where she sees the good and bad. As

you read, she protrudes that, although; it is probably a great idea of owning a gun, everyone

should not be used for the purposes of evil or bad. Like why should a fourteen-year-old boy have

a gun? In today's world, the second amendment is not taken seriously. In all honesty, the second

amendment is not written for the generation that we are in. Ivins is trying to point out that

although we have a right to bear arms; we do not have the right to use the guns negatively.

Also, Ivins uses pathos in this article. Pathos is a way of getting a point across while

using emotions. worldwide She uses humor, sarcasm, and many other emotions in this article.

Especially when she talks about having to get a knife or a dog to protect yourself. It seems crazy,
but then again who knows maybe one of them are better than having a gun around the house. A

gun in my eyes is a good, but also a bad thing to have these days.

Another great way Ivins gets her point across is by using ethos. Ethos means that you are

trying to convince the audience that they are a credible source. Ivins portray Ethos in this piece

using the Second Amendment and referring to Thomas Jefferson wishes. She puts the Second

Amendment directly into the story and it says: "A well-regulated militia is needed to the security

of a free state; the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." Also, Ivins

states Jefferson wishes and talks about teenage drug dealers. She refers back to a Famous

president and an Amendment. This shows that Ivins is a credible person; her work can be trusted,

and she has not made any of this up.

Most Ivins, she uses positive connotation. She does not use any really big words. The

words she uses are more so words that higher up high school students should know. As she

arranges this paper is in a way that is easy to read and easy to understand. She does not skip

around and she does not go from one thing to another. Ivins stay on what she is talking about and

has her words and layouts together. She did a really good job on having a positive impact and a

positive outlook on what she is arguing about. Overall, Ivins did an amazing job and the article

was very interesting to read and gave me more insight on how other people feel about gun rights.
