Artists in the night

Local artist and Island Gallery co-owner Everett White (below) spent the evening
of Friday, October 22, doing something he loves to do; paint. But he didn't
hole up in some studio or retreat to a deserted locale to indulge in his passion -
instead, he shared it with the residents of Sullivan's Island. For about two hours,
Everett worked on an idealized portrait of John Lennon in the front yard of Island
Gallery, located at 2214 Middle Street. To round out the evening of artistry,
Everett was accompanied by glass artist Wm. Austin Norvell (right), who recently
moved to the area from North Carolina. Together, the artists wrought their work
to the delight of passerby and evening diners. Island Gallery plans to hold more
artisticly expressive events such as this on a monthly basis. For more info, call
Island Gallery at 882-8005 or drop by the shop!

greatest gain of seller home value is Sullivan’s Island. It was also
the lone community with a decrease in homes sold.
Another factor contributing to seller advantage is inventory.
Seabrook is the only market with a reduction in both the number of
homes entering the market and withdrawing from it—contributing
to inventory reduction. It also had a small reduction in the days on
the market before a home sold.
In contrast, most markets declined on both factors (SP and cost
per s/f), creating an even more favorable market for the buyer. And,
as homes languish on the market, the buyer has more leverage
to negotiate a lower price. Based on these data, the communities
with the greatest increase in buyer value are Isle of Palms and Wild
Dunes.
The data in Table 2 (next column) is also evidence of the
unevenness of the recovery across high-end communities within
Charleston County. Most striking is the depression among luxury
home sales between these two 12-month periods. While there has
been substantial overall improvement within these communities, at
least in terms of homes sold, the decline in home sales at or above
the $750k level is notable. The only exceptions are Seabrook and
Folly Beach, which showed just a slight increase.
