Milligan, Susan. “Is Abortion a Human Right?” U.S. News & World Report, U.S. News & World

Report www.usnews.com/news/articles/2015/12/02/is-abortion-a-human-right.

The article “Is Abortion a Human Right” by Susan Milligan is about Northern Ireland and

how their abortion laws are among the strictest in Europe and it is based on human rights. As

well as how the legislators cannot deny abortions to females who are victims of rape or incest

or who carry fetuses with fatal abnormalities because it is a violation to human rights. They also

have The Abortion Act that doesn’t allow abortion after 28 weeks and those that perform illegal

abortions can be sentenced to 14 years behind bars. Their abortion rights are fairly similar but

the American abortion rights are a battle between choice and life where in Northern Ireland has

strict laws on who can abort in certain situations and up to what week. This would provide

outside abortion information to give facts of abortion and how it works similarly and differently

than Americans.

Schwarzwalder, Rob. “Family Research Council.” FRC, 2019, www.frc.org/brochure/the-best-

pro-life-arguments-for-secular-audiences.

The article “The Best Pro-Life Arguments for Secular Audiences” by Rob Schwarzwalder

was published by the Family Research Council in 2019. In the introduction it gives us

information about how the article includes the best arguments from science, the law, and
Ridley 2

women’s rights to advance the pro-life case against abortion. In science it states that people

who say that no one quite knows when life begins aren’t really arguing about science rather

arguing about politics or religion. Above all, the real argument is when does the life begin to

deserve acknowledgement. Next, in the law section it talks about the law permitting abortion

known as Roe v. Wade that allowed abortion in the first trimester. Women are given their

“right to privacy” and both sides that pro-choice would abort because having a child would

negatively affect their lives and pro-life decide that a life should not be taken when you made a

decision and risk. This article would provide both sides of the argument and shows sources

from where they obtained the information.

“Abortion Access.” NARAL Pro-Choice America, 2019, www.prochoiceamerica.org/issu

e/abortionn-access/.

This article, “Abortion Access”, was published in 2019 and is a pro-choice website. As its

leading argument it states that all women should have the right to decide for themselves if and

when they choose to start a family. People should have the right to choose abortion and that it

is a fundamental human right. Also, stating that the Supreme Court’s 1973 decision in Roe v.

Wade affirmed abortion as their constitutional right and was a leading aspect for women’s

equality and autonomy. This article would give me information on the pro-choice side of

abortion and why abortion should be in the hands of the people not the law.

“Abortion Facts.” National Abortion Federation, prochoice.org/education-and-advocacy/about-

abortion/abortion-facts/.

The article “Abortion Facts” by the National Abortion Federation has worked since 1977

about abortion. This article includes facts on abortion risks before and after as well as how after

abortion women can feel upset. Also, provides information about how abortion is taking

medication that will end a pregnancy. They provide facts about both sides and includes

abortion is one of the most common and safe medical procedures today. This article will

provide me with the statistics and facts of a step by step information about abortion and

everything a women may need to know before considering abortion. This article also includes

both sides of the argument but gives statistics to follow each reasoning for each statement

about how abortion is safe.

“Abortion ProCon.org.” ProConorg Headlines, 2018, abortion.procon.org/.

This article, “Should Abortion Be Legal”, was published in 2018 including information on

the debate over whether or not abortion should be a legal option. For pro-choice followers

argument it provides the US Supreme Court declared abortion as a “fundamental right” that is

provided by the Constitution, this choice gives women control over their bodies, a baby isn’t

given personhood till they are out of the womb, fetuses can’t feel the pain of the abortions,

legal abortions reduces injury or death from illegal abortions, and many more. For pro-life

followers they give information on how abortion is murder, life begins at conception, fetuses

feel pain in abortion, abortion is killing a human, Roe v. Wade was wrong and should be

overturned, and much more. This article would be used to provide information of both pro-

choice and pro-life and the overall pros and cons of abortion with facts to support their sides.

“Abortion: What Do Doctors Say?” Meg Meeker, M.D.,www.megmeekermd.com/blog/abortion-

what-do-doctors-say/.
Ridley 4

The article “Abortion: What Do Doctors Say?” by Meg Meeker, MD provides information

on abortion from the doctors point of view. This article includes a real life example of when a

young adult got pregnant and decided that having a child would not fit into their lifestyle. So

she aborted the baby but was criticized by her obstetricians and physicians. They also did not

want to perform them because you see the child’s body parts and it can be scarring to see even

once. This article included that doctors don’t agree with abortions and that no one should see

one because it is cruel. This article provides information on the doctors point of view on

abortions being hard to watch for a person mentally because it was a life once and in that one

choice that life was taken from this world and that is why doctors do not want to perform these

procedures.

Britannica, The Editors of Encyclopaedia. “Abortion.” Encyclopædia Britannica, Encyclopædia

Britannica, Inc., 15 Nov. 2018, www.britannica.com/science/abortion-pregnancy.

This article, “Abortion”, by the Encyclopedia Britannica provides the basic information

and statistics on abortion. Abortion is the expulsion of a fetus from the uterus before it is in the

viability stage which is usually the 20th week. Abortion may also be called a instant miscarriage

or induced abortion. Abortions may be performed to preserve the life of a mother, prevent the

completion of a pregnancy due to rape or incest, prevent birth of a child with deformities, or

prevent birth for a social or economic reason. Then the article includes the step by step process

of an abortion from hysterectomies or pills for the abortion to take place. Then the article

includes Roe v. Wade and how it was included to give the women the right to choose whether

they want to have an abortion or not. This article would provide the basic information of

abortions and background information in depth in the political aspect, science, and the basic

information on abortion itself.
