GENERAL AIMS:
 to arouse the pupils’ interest in the subject of the new lesson
 to improve their knowledge
 to help students improve their speaking
 to develop communication during class
 to check comprehension
 to make students use their previous knowledge

SPECIFIC AIMS:
- by the end of the lesson:
 students will be able to express their opinions about the topics presented during the lesson
 students should perceive the oral and written message given by the teacher
 students will be able to use a variety of different grammatical structures and to produce them
correctly
 students will be able to organise ideas and produce a contribution of a suitable length

Warm-up ( 3 minutes)
- the teacher greets the pupils
- the pupils greet the teacher (lockstep)
- organization of the class (the attendance of the pupils)

2. Activity Two- ( 8 minutes) – Writing , Speaking, (lockstep)


- the teacher asks the students several questions related to letters and then presents different types
of letters written in different styles
- the students answer the teacher’s questions and name letter styles and types

3. Activity Three – ( 6 minutes)- Speaking, Reading


- UNDERSTANDING THE RUBRIC
- the students are asked to underline the key information and to answer the questions
- the teacher asks the students to open their textbooks and to do ex nr 2a/ page 38 (lockstep)

4. Activity Four- ( 8 minutes)- Reading, Speaking, Writing


- INFORMAL LETTERS
- the teacher asks the students to read some of the characteristics of the informal letters and to
analyse an informal letter
- the students work in pairs and choose the appropriate letter motivating their answers

5. Activity Five- ( 8 minutes) –Writing, Speaking, Reading
- GIVING ADVICE
- the teacher goes through the language for giving advice
- the students are asked to highlight the advice phrases in model B and to replace some phrases
with other appropriate ones (ex 3 a, 3b page 19, 20)

6. Activity Six- (8 minutes) - Writing, Speaking


- OPENING/ CLOSING REMARKS
- the teachers reminds the students the way a letter begins and ends naming various ways for
beginning (opening remarks) and ending (closing remarks) informal letter
- students are asked to do exercise 4a, page 20

7. Activity Seven- (7 minutes) - Writing, Speaking


-SEMI- FORMAL STYLE
-the teachers presents the characteristics of the semi- formal letters
-students compare two extracts from different letters and choose the appropriate one

8. Activity Eight- (2 minute) - Conversation


- the teacher congratulates the students using encouraging words and says “Good bye!”
